It should be noted that Iraq was an undemocratic corrupt oppressive violent wreck during the U.S. occupation just like it is after the occupation. At least it is now in the hands of the Iraqi people where it belongs rather than American interlopers.

The religious kooks did not do any better getting along in the Balkans. The Soviets forced them to work together and when the Soviets left it all collapsed. Same with Saddam. It seems odd to Americans, but people actually kill each other over which flavor of the same religion they are. The solution seems to be to just let them cleave off into their own sect/government mini-countries. Biden was right. I we do not try to impose that which cannot be imposed again, it is very likely that things will be resolved that way throughout the middle east.

Remember, ISIS claims its main goal is to reestablish an Islamic Caliphate in the Levant. There's one problem with that plan, there's a sizable strip of land near the coast that it's current owners have sworn to protect by any means necessary including the use of nuclear weapons.

Something for sure is going to burn.
The problem is they will end up having to deal with the natural infighting that plagued the rebels in Syria, along with the support from outside forces pouring into shore up the power base of the government. I dare say that the early gains of the ISIS will begin to grind to a halt soon and they will slowly begin to cede ground.

That is basically exactly what has been going on in Iraq since the toppling of Saddam's regime with various flare ups. The aftermath of what to do after we toppled Saddam was never planned for when we went into Iraq in the first place. The mistake was made back then.

Again I see you do a bunch of blaming, but I don't see any offering of any alternatives. How much longer should we have stayed in Iraq?
North and South Korea for $1,000 Alex!

Just in case if anyone forgot whose fault this is...

Bush's finest moment on Iraq: SOFA, not the surge

Take a close look in the mirror America, you wanted this, you voted for this and you got exactly what you wanted. This is what you get for following the loudest people in the room off a cliff.

What say you liberal left? Did Senator Graham call it or what? Can you give the guy his props?
Nope....he campaigned to bring the troops home and he finally lived up to his promise....albeit a bit late.

And LMFAO at the right for getting upset over this when it was their man who wanted war for WMDS that were never found and destabilizing a country to where it is today.

Maybe we should have stayed out of Iraq....and maybe this would have all been avoided. But that would make to much sense

We weren't wrong to try to give these people a chance to escape tyranny, but at some point we have to accept the fact that the reason they were living under a dictator in the first place is because they don't have it in them to do otherwise.

Ditto that for Afghanistan.
You need to have an exit strategy before you send in military, they were of the opinion that the Iraqis would be celebrating in the street when we invaded Iraq, they were very wrong. The amount of ignorance and incompetence by our leadership was astounding.

George H. Bush described quite clearly why we left after the first invasion in the 90's in his book, we never had a clear exit strategy after we removed Hussein.

Don't have a "position." But think it falls on who started the war.

What Obama should have done was ended the war much earlier.

Well America has gone all in on the MENA, C. Eurasia, E. Russia plan since the 70's so why exactly does there need to be an exit strategy when it's required to continue on or fail miserably. Bush told you that but you didn't really listen or believe that he was defending your "way of life."
