There have been 108 murders in Chiraq this year (unless I've missed a few from last night), and kids in CPS think "are school" is the best, yet Rahm "Lil' Tink" Emmanuel wants to focus on a sign on a building that's been fully approved.
If nothing else, this pits two of the most unlikeable human beings in America against each other. Rahm Emmanuel, who suffers from Short Person Syndrome but refuses to take his meds for it, is in one corner. In the other, Donald Trump, whose ego is actually nearly as tall as the building bearing his name.
It's a classic sign of petty politics, which Emmanuel certainly learned enough of hanging out with such low-lifes as Barack Obama. The city council, as well as the city zoning administrator, both signed off on the sign. Yet "The Rahmster" -- rhymes with 'hamster' -- thinks he should take up this fight instead of figuring out why Johnny kan't reed over in CPS.
Yeah, that makes sense!
"Mayor Emanuel believes this is an architecturally tasteful building scarred by an architecturally tasteless sign," his spokeswoman Kelley Quinn said in a statement, a day after Kamin reported that McCaffrey used the word "awful" to describe Emanuel's opinion of the sign.
What the mayor may not disagree with is Trump's contention that the city may not have much choice but to get used to his name in big bold letters.
"The sign — which was already reduced in size and scope — does comply with the provisions of the planned development ordinance and the City Council sign order, but he has asked his staff to determine if there are any options available for further changes," Quinn said.
Government -- it's rarely the answer, but almost always the problem.
