Political Polarization and Personal Life | Pew Research Center for the People and the Press

It is an enduring stereotype – conservatives prefer suburban McMansions while liberals like urban enclaves – but one that is grounded in reality. Given the choice, three-quarters (75%) of consistent conservatives say they would opt to live in a community where “the houses are larger and farther apart, but schools, stores and restaurants are several miles away,” and just 22% say they’d choose to live where “the houses are smaller and closer to each other, but schools, stores and restaurants are within walking distance.” The preferences of consistent liberals are almost the exact inverse, with 77% preferring the smaller house closer to amenities, and just 21% opting for more square footage farther away.

Well I'm a conservative and I'm a city slicker. I guess I could give suburban living a try, but that's down the road after I get married and have kids, I'm only 24 right now so I don't see the point of a suburb at this stage of my life. I love the energy of cities, the atmosphere, having all the amenities, stores just right down the road, skylines, there is so much to do and it's so easy to meet women too! They're everywhere! Unfortunately most of them I find are not really relationship material, a lot are non-Christians and I don't date non-Christian women.

But there are some cities I would never live in, like Chicago or New York City, too much of a Nanny State Presence, too crime ridden, too expensive, too many taxes, it's basically living in an urban prison. I think I would like to live in Miami, or Houston or something. Basically this survey sounds like a bunch of vast generalizations.

Give me rural living over both McMansions and urban areas.

Urban areas tend to be restrictive and McMansions tend to have strict HOAs, in the country I have almost total control over my land.

I like living on my 5 acres, where it takes 10 minutes to get to town. Life is so much nicer when all you have are deer staring at you instead of the neighbors.
