At this point in time Ferd you have an Interstate system built in the 60's and 70's. The cost for the bridges alone that are past their lifetime is astronomical.

This is desperately needed. Considering it took 20 years since the last one maybe they should index it to inflation while they're at it.
You posted this, and apparently didnt read it...
From the article:
"In addition to increasing the tax by 6 cents in each of the next two years, the senators want the rate indexed to inflation. Failure to keep pace with inflation over the past 20 years, along with steadily increasing fuel economy, has caused the Federal Highway Trust Fund that receives the money to sink to a dangerous level."

Yeah...this tax increase is tied to a tax DECREASE for the 1%. I don't support it for that reason.

The part I object too? removing the prohibition on tollways. Seriously, adding toll booths to the interstate infrastructure just adds inefficiency. Its a bad idea.

Meanwhile the federal government is raising taxes everywhere else, and they still cannot get enough. Gasoline prices are set for new highs this summer, aside from whatever is going on in Iraq, and the out-of-touch government wants to raise taxes???

CBO: Tax Revenue Hits All-Time High

This 'all time high' is definitely NOT because our economy is booming at an all time high, it's because taxes are at an all time high and sucking the life blood out of our already stagnant economy

We actually agree on something ....and just to add it will drive more traffic onto secondary roads. A section of the PA turnpike terminates where I live, it's a ghost town but not because it terminates. It could easily be used to bypass a section of I-81 that is highly congested but everyone avoids it because of the toll.
