Wonderful quote from a judge this week in the Ground Zero cross lawsuit. Atheists are trying to get the cross removed. The judge is pressing them to explain what they find so offensive about the historical artifact. And how its mere presence causes them "harm."

The article ends with this quote from the judge:

Quote:
“Taking personal offense is not an injury that warrants invoking the power of the courts to shut down everything you disagree with,” Baxter also said. “The Constitution is not a personal tool for censoring everyone’s beliefs but your own.”
Wow. Simple common sense that seems not to be so common any more. This kind of common sense should be applied to so many more cases on a myriad of issues.

So if someone puts up a statue of Satan in a public place, it must remain there until someone proves it causes them some kind of harm? As the judge said, "Taking personal offense is not an injury that warrants invoking the power of the courts to shut down everything you disagree with,” Baxter also said. “The Constitution is not a personal tool for censoring everyone’s beliefs but your own.”

Just curious. How would Christians react to Satanist statue and memorabilia being openly displayed at Ground Zero in honor of the loved ones who might have been satanist?

Why did these same Christians try to use the law and courts to shut muslin mosque that was being built in the vicinity of Ground Zero? It seems to me that Christians are just as guilty and too faced as all the other religious and anti-religion freaks... They all play the same blame and "I'm a victim" game.

If this was the 1980's nobody would say bs, but since 2001, all these mongers, have been doing is bashing religion, privacy, freedoms, couples with age difference, and gun laws. Thanks to the internet they are right in every bodies face about it. With all the morons on the internet, their words are wedged into their heads.

Indeed.

Yes.

Set up video-recording in case a lightning bolt or global flood issues forth from the statue's fingertips or something.

I have to look at Lincoln's face on Mt Rushmore, and I'm still alive.

Who cares?

Tell them to sign up for Obamacare and get pills to cure their emotional problems.

See how that's different?
I see how you employ this fallacy...

Selective Attention

Improperly focusing attention on certain things and ignoring others.

...leading to this fallacy...

Double Standard

There are many situations in which you should judge two things or people by the same standard. If in one of those situations you use different standards for the two, your reasoning contains the fallacy of using a double standard.

If you are going to attach religion to crime, then you must attach religion to all crime, not just certain crimes.

It was Christian America that murdered Iraqi King Faisal II in cold blood.

What does the Christian Bible say about murder?...

Mircea

I think putting a cross, or any other such obvious religious symbol somewhere, makes something a religious monument. That indicates that as a place, it's more special to some people, than others.

I could not agree more.

Too many people have tried to turn the Constitution into a protection against being personally offended by things other people do or say. Some of these fools just want to ban things that other people do, even though they will never see or hear them do it.
