For all the idiocy on this thread about how the Earth is cooling, a story has just come out that last May was the hottest month in recorded history.

Quote:
May Was the Hottest in Recorded History

The globe just experienced the hottest May in recorded history, according to reports from multiple organizations. Ocean and land temperatures rose 0.74 degrees Celsius (1.33 degrees Fahrenheit) over the 20th Century average, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). That makes May 2014 the warmest May since the agency started tracking those figures in 1880. Both NASA and Japan Meteorological Agency came to the same conclusion — this was the warmest May ever recorded. Overall, this was the second warmest spring ever, trailing only the March-May period in 2010, according to the NOAA.

On record since what year, again?

How far back does our recorded history go back, again?

And one month is meaningless. To think otherwise is idiocy. Try again.

NOOA: The “pause” in global warming observed since 2000 followed a period of rapid acceleration in the late 20th century. Starting in the mid-1970s, global temperatures rose 0.5 °C over a period of 25 years. Since the turn of the century, however, the change in Earth’s global mean surface temperature has been close to zero..

This one story totally undermines this entire thread. This thread is based on how the Earth is cooling and AGW is hoax. There is a hoax all right. The hoax is being perpetuated by the Deniers.

Nobody said we would not have one month hotter than in the past, or cooler. One month is a useless piece of data. One month is meaningless.

Yes, AGW is a hoax. CO2 has increased dramatically while global temps have remained static for 17 years.

Try again.

When that doesn't work anymore, we'll get GHCN v4 to "correct" temperature measurements from a century ago and we'll once again have the warmest months, seasons and years since 60, 80 or 100 years ago.

Apparently, in order for the science of global warming to remain settled, recorded temperatures from 100 years ago will still be up for debate.

Surface temperature have risen very little, but again, I guess you don't want to discuss or admit that the oceans (where most of the additional heat is stored) are warming even more rapidly.

The most likely explanation for the lack of significant warming at the Earth’s surface in the past decade or so is that natural climate cycles—a series of La Niña events and a negative phase of the lesser-known Pacific Decadal Oscillation—caused shifts in ocean circulation patterns that moved some excess heat into the deep ocean. Even so, recent years have been some of the warmest on record, and scientists expect temperatures will swing back up soon. Why did Earth

How about this....It is considerably more than one month... May marked the 39th consecutive May and 351st consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average. State of the Climate | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)

Finally, an admission by a warmer that it hasn't warmed in over 17 years.
