This is true in some areas. Is it true in Rangel's district? And what evidence is there that illegal immigrants were a significant factor in his win?

And why do you think it surprising that hispanic voters would support a black politician over a hispanic politician?

Rangel is many things, but stupid at vote-getting he is not.

He didn't play up the PR part because his base is DR.

Obviously his base didn't care that he got censured.
They come from a country that is used to corruption in government so it's no big deal to them.
Yes. Lots of corruption in the good ol' USA.

How exactly does that make YOU any different from them?

That they're used to it, and you're too naive NOT to be?

Come on HT...you know better.

I haven't voted D or R in a Presidential election since 2000.

I'm doing my part to hopefully get a third party at least into the game.

LOL...fair enough.

But we as Americans are hardly in a position to to belittle other people for tolerating corrupt governments.

Rangel is many things, but stupid at vote-getting he is not.
As noted by myself and others in this thread previously, demographics only tell half the story. It isn't the numbers of Hispanics/Latinos in Rangel's Harlem and Bronx district, but those whom are eligible to become or are voters.

New York State (for various self serving political reasons) has Congressional primaries in June for the November ballot. OTOH New York City and other local areas hold primaries for their elected officials in September. This is one of the main reasons for voter apathy in these races; many persons are either busy with preparing to leave on vacation, dealing with graduation (theirs or their children's) and a whole host of other things besides concentrating much less often caring about an election.

Uh; many Hispanics of Black family like Dominicans have the rep of saying the ain't "Black", even the ones with dark skin.

In some cases, yes, that is true. Insanity does come in all forms.

In many cases, Hispanics/Latinos of Black African origin do proudly acknowledge their ancestry. They just don't identify as African American, and they should not, because they aren't.

Rangel can and does identify as African American, as his mother was. He can and (sometimes, lol) does identify as Puerto Rican and Latino, as his father was.

Exactly.
People need to respect his racial & ethnic identities. He has always been open about his heritage & background.
