Just wondering. Should an energy producer like Consol Energy be forced to keep their money in coal when they prefer gas? Why the war on natural gas?

The war on energy companies are just rhetoric that complain because they don't want to convert towards a cleaner idea because it costs "too much money to do so."

Listen to the damn link that YOU posted. He didn't say anything CLOSE to that.

Listen to it instead of just posting something recommended from someone else.

Seriously? That's exactly what he said.
If they build a coal fired plant, he will bankrupt them.

Dammit dude...you must be deaf.

He didn't say anything close to that. Order one of those earwax cleaners from TV because you can't hear worth a damn.

He said "it will bankrupt them." Not that HE would bankrupt them.

Losing 18% of production over the next 16 years shouldn`t be the end of the world. We know what happened to the steel industry in a very short time and Pittsburgh survived and that was without gas jobs to fall back on.

Is this not obscene?

OK, I get it...Like the definition of "is."

How sharp a knife did it take to split that hair?

What is "it?" Obama's regulations?
Seems like the "he" is responsible for the "it."

You're trying to use a coal company selling off their coal assets to bolster the argument there is no war on coal? That makes a lot of sense.

Why the war on natural gas?
That's next on the list.

Fractured Lives - July/August 2012- Sierra Magazine - Sierra Club

What's the official position now?
We view natural gas as a significant source of air and water pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions. In addition to its large climate footprint, the extraction of natural gas is having a big impact on rural communities, state forests, and the landscapes that we've worked hard to protect. Our primary goal is still to retire coal plants as quickly as possible and replace them with genuinely clean energy like solar and wind. Investing in gas actually hinders deployment of wind and solar, so we want to leapfrog gas as we move to a clean-energy future.

What about recent studies that suggest that the extraction and burning of natural gas has a bigger impact on climate change than coal does?
They're alarming. Studies in places like the Marcellus Shale and Colorado have shown that the greenhouse emissions from natural gas are much, much worse than originally thought. Unfortunately, there isn't yet a comprehensive empirical analysis of the full carbon footprint of gas. So the Sierra Club—along with almost every other environmental group—is calling for a full study that documents those emissions and the extent to which they can be controlled or avoided altogether.
