You would still be able to round to the nickel. It will probably never happen, but I would be fine with it if it ever did.

Money is a means to obtain wealth, or create more wealth. But it is not typically wealth itself. The USA, its people and businesses are far wealthier in so many ways than 100 years ago. And a large part of that was/is due to the desirability and fiat nature of our USD. The fiat dollar enable the means of production that led to the US having a great impact on the outcome of WW2. And since then the fiat dollar has enable the USA to stay on top of the world, militarily and economically.
