Don't be so outraged. This is no secret. Congress knows they are not funding their IT needs adequately.

Do you think IRS still has people using windows XP because they want to? No, its because they don't have funds.
The IRS lives and dies by the data they collect, saving and backing up that evidence/data IS their mission. How much money and how many investigations would be destroyed if IRS employee computers are not backed up and their data is all lost?

EPA joins IRS lost emails club

The environmental agency is having trouble locating emails belonging to a former agency employee and pulling information from his crashed hard drive, House members revealed Wednesday while questioning Administrator Gina McCarthy at a hearing on complaints of mismanagement.
Are they claiming this guys emails aren't backed up on an exchange server and kept on his hard drive?? Sheep will baaaaaa though.

The IRS lives and dies by the TAX data they collect, save and back up.

That data is on a main frame with multiple backups in multiple locations.

There is no tax data solely on IRS employee computers.

Most of whats on employee emails/computers is the electronic equivalent of bureaucratic paper pushing and/or what time they are meeting each other for lunch.

Do you seriously think the tax data of 300 million Americans is on the same server as Outlook for employee emails?
There are zero tax audits or investigations dependent on the data on IRS employee computers.

I think the EPA -- that bastion of deep-thinkers -- is going to claim that they backed up EVERYTHING on 1.44mb floppies.

Because at the EPA, that's progress.

Don't floppies emit co2 somehow? Maybe that's what happened?
