All he has to do is make a phone call. Mexicans accidently crossed the border and we released then quickly. Yet our pathetic POTUS has done nothing. He didn't even bring the issue up last week when he was on the phone with the Mexican President.

Where do you guys get these ideas? Do you think a German arrested for smuggling would be released from US jail because Angela Merkel popped a quick call?

If the German put medication that was banned in the US in his luggage and upon realizing immediately told the custom officials when he arrived, YES.

The first thing the marine did when he accidentally drove into Mexico was tell the Mexican authorities that he made a wrong turn and had weapons in his vehicle.

Do you believe smuggles traditionally go to the first authority they see and tell them they have contraband on them?

I think that if Merkel called under such circumstances, yes, the German would be promptly released.

"Hey, I accidentally brought this pot over from Amsterdam where it's perfectly legal - we cool?" Yeah, that'll work.

I'm betting if such a person immediately went to the customs officials and said, "I had some left over pot in Amsterdam that was mistakenly put in my luggage" I bet it would work.

Not everybody is a "zero tolerance" robot.

Mexicans try to smuggle crap into the US all the time. They get arrested/prosecuted by US courts. Even if they were just on the other side an announced it when they got caught.

Mexican drug cartel tried to smuggle marijuana painted to look like fruit | Fox News

The Marine was not on orders and not on exercises. He broke the law...really of both countries by moving the guns across the border. They have every jurisdiction to arrest and detain him if he was military or not.

Tell ya how to test that theory out; come on up to Canada load up with a bit of weed and attempt to chuckle your way through your TSA goons on your way back home.

Tips: make sure your lawyer is on speed dial although your phone (nor your underwear) will still be in your possession but you never know there might be one in the room that will allow you to make that one call after a few hours of intense grilling. Make sure your credit cards are all paid off because you'll need to make bail. Make sure friends meeting you are smart enough to stay well clear and deny knowing you if asked as that same TSA has authority to stop and search their vehicle on public roadways if they think your friends are dope heads too.

Your have got to be pulling our legs here with this: "Not everybody is a "zero tolerance" robot." nonsense in reference to your border agents or TSA Nazis.

In fact I don't think that he was in the Marines. Been out for a couple of years.

More to this case than meets the eye IMO.

Mexico does it differently with Napoleonic Law but here's a sample of how Canada would be treating the guy regardless of his bullcrap about making a boo-boo at a well marked crossing.

3rd American charged with bringing guns through Emerson crossing - Winnipeg Free Press

Third one was another military idiot. An Airforce Major no less.

Stupid people do stupid things. Stupid people with firearms, neither Mexico nor Canada needs any more of them. We got enough already, thanks.
