Between 97-99 percent of climate scientists agree that global warming is not only happening, but that it is being influenced by man. One recent study earlier this year reported that only 0.01% of working climate scientists believe that climate change is not effected by man-made variables, and 0% believed that global warming is not happening at all.

With that being said, 23% of people in the united states don't believe global warming is happening. It seems almost unbelievable that almost a quarter of the country thinks they know more than the worlds leading experts on the subject. It's laughable the way people go out of there way on this forum to comb the Internet for articles that contradicts what any intelligent human being is unable to dismiss. Half the time the articles posted don't even dispute global warming, as it's just a case of the TS not understanding the article. What's crazy is that the number of deniers is actually increasing; however, What's not crazy is the fact that there is a very strong correlation with those that identify as being fundamentally religious as being the bulk of this increasing portion of the population. What sucks about this, is the fact that these people are the base of the republican party, so the party has assumed the role of denying science once again. Now people that aren't bat**** crazy religious seem to feel it's their political obligation to deny something that a small child should be able to come to terms with, due to the mountains of statistical evidence.

If there is anything in this world the perpetuates nonsense, we must stand back in awe of religion. I would honestly consider voting republican if they could put a decent candidate up, but in order to get the nomination, it's looking like that candidate might have to take a steamy dump on science to keep the troops in good spirits.

I can't support that

Don't you think it's odd that almost all the deniers live in the USA?

It doesn't surprise me at all. The reason all these people are deniers is because it's been politicized. It's not politicized this way in most other countries. The only one I can think of off hand is Russia, and it's because they're economy is running off of all the oil that's being pumped in Siberia. global Policy changes regarding the use of fossil fuels is not looking good for them.

I think the USA is the only country where vast fortunes are pumped into the denial machine.

I don't deny it is happening.
I just don't believe any of the so-called "scientists" REALLY know exactly WHY!
I also don't believe the government believes in it, because they are NOT doing anything to alleviate the inevitable (so "they" say) problems.
When I see projects in work that will alleviate the catastrophic problems, (yes, the ones "they" are always crying about, but haven't happened yet) it will prove to me the problems are serious.
That is, projects IN WORK, not "planned" or "in planning" or whatever, but actually BEING DONE!
Yes, the climate is changing. I see it in our local weather every day.
But, I have my doubts about the CAGW cultists!
Seems to me vast fortunes are being pumped to THEM, also!

The real issue is that the environmental "movement" is always creating one crisis after another to get people on board with their cause. And it's an issue contrived after natural events. In the 60s and 70s we had a long pattern of cold, hard winters in the US. The environmental movement went as bat-chit crazy promoting global cooling and the coming ice age. The proposed solution? More taxes and forgo an industrialized society.

Then temps get back to normal. But we started being able to measure the Van Allen belts and examine the "ozone layer". OMG the sky is falling, we have to eliminate CFCs. The solution? More taxes and forgo an industrialized society.

Next...the bugaboo of "acid rain" is created. It's those evil power plants destroying the world. Fresh water sources are going to be acidified. The solution? More taxes and forgo an industrialized society.

All the issues turn out to be meaningless. The air is cleaner than ever, auto industry has cleaned up exhausts...the environmental movement starts starving when the latest scam dies down...their contributions do too. What can we do? Well, we've had a couple years with a swing in temperatures and a few warm summers. We need a new issue to scare the crap out of the uneducated public. "I know", the clever little enviro goes, "Global Warming!!!" That's it, we'll make a fortune!" Seems to have worked. The solution? More taxes and forgo an industrialized society.

OK...so I have gotten a bit cynical as I've gotten older. But when you see the same old voices with one crisis after another...it gets harder and harder to take it seriously. Cry wolf long enough and reasonable people quit listening. Especially when what claims to be "science" bears more resemblance to a religious cult than science. Real scientist question their hypothesis. They test their theories. They expect and want their methods to be clear, and most importantly repeatable. Real science demands "skeptics" and examines their data and works to integrate it into their theories. They don't treat other scientists with a different hypothesis as heretics. Cultists do that.

Don't worry, they will come up with another disaster to keep the weak-minded in a panic.

Nobody in the 60's and 70's heard anything about global cooling. That was something that was kept to the scientific community that has now become a conservative talking point. All the other stuff you mentioned actually happened.

What I find funny is how many people have read this post and haven't said a thing. I credit you with at least making a somewhat intelligent response despite the fact that it's completely erroneous. It just goes to show that these boards have become overrun with conservative extremists. One would think this country was overwhelmingly conservative by reading these boards, yet we have a two term democrat potus, and the odds of us having another one are almost a sure bet.
