Why didn't the cops take this position themselves? The fact that she is in the home, trespassing, should have been enough, if this were the case.
Because there was an agreement for her to live there. Whether there's a written lease or not means diddly squat as does whether it was compensation for her employment. She has to be evicted and she's not trespassing until that's done. This is pretty much the law in most states, even the more conservative ones. It's a contract and one that involves the right to occupy a residence has special requirements.

Apparently, the nanny is missing now. According to the article she is named in a couple of cases. I'm wondering if she has a warrant or two out there, and all this media attention sent her running.
IMO cops don't want to take legal standing for fear of lawsuits.
That's why they always say you'll have to take it to court, unless
it involves domestic violence and then they are held by law, to arrest.
This woman sounds like a real *****
"Court documents show that when Stretton's father, John Richardson, died in 2000, his will included Stretton's two sisters, Donna Tobey and Sharon Freeburn. Richardson “specifically and expressly omitted Stretton,” according to court documents."

See my other post. you are wrong. She had not established residency in that home. It was simply part of her payment as an employee in an at will employer state.
The first thing I heard about this story was the wife saying something along the lines of "On TV you just say get out." The couple are idiots and I don't feel bad for idiots.

That it was her compensation doesn't matter. It was still her residence.

WRONG. It was not her residence. It was her place of employment that required her to be
on premise. Once she was fired she was no longer an employee. Period.
And if you don't believe me, let's see her take it to court
Oh wait, the con skipped
She's lucky the family doesn't charge her with child abuse and neglect.
