The court rejected Google’s appeal, affirming the lower court’s decision that the U.S. Wiretap Act includes information on unencrypted home Wi-Fi networks, Bloomberg reports. In several class-action lawsuits, Google has been accused of gathering emails, usernames and passwords with its fleet of vehicles used for collecting images for Street View.
Google has since apologized for the data collection but insists that it has not done anything illegal. The U.S. Wiretap Act prohibits interception of wire and electronic communications, but Google has argued that Wi-Fi networks fall under the exception made for radio signals.

Yes, it is astonishing. It's also frightening.

Which is the greater threat, government organizations, or non-government organizations?

Wondering....

Thank god. Now, will Google relinquish all the data they illegally obtained?

edit

Hold on, the court did not decide that they cannot wiretap. They merely said that Google can be sued.

You might as well consider Google a Government organization. They have a seat at Obama's table.

Interesting.

Does this mean that, if I buy a new PC computer but don't want to pay for my own internet connection, and so I just turn it on and link up to my neighbor's unencrypted Wi-Fi without his knowing....

.... now I'm committing a Federal offense???
