That was from coal by-products in the smoke.

You have an image of the early USA as being bucolic and non-mechanized that is false. The North was churning out all manner of goods, from armaments to cloth, polluting rivers and landscapes, when they weren't denuding them. One of the reason the frontier pushed west was that the 'pioneers' were using up the woods and needed fresh forests to harvest. The forests you see in the Northeast are largely 're-growth'.
No, your history is faulty because you are not looking at actual data. Total carbon emissions in 1800 was 8 million metric tons. In 2010 it's 9167 million metric tons. I don't think there is any way that 8 million metric tons caused the devastation of forests.

Global Fossil-Fuel CO2 Emissions

And the statement I was responding to had nothing to do with cutting trees. It was about blaming AGW for forest devastation beginning in 1800.

BTW, you have no idea what my image of early USA is.

Unethically in many cases.

It is not the sea ice that matters. Sea ice varies seasonally, and is not indicative of climate change. It is the measurable decrease of shelf ice that evidence climate change due to global warming.

IF it gets any warmer I'm going to have to buy a heavier coat.

That's correct, you'll need a much warmer coat. More harsh winter weather is a mediate consequence of global warming.

OP needs to learn the Global Warming Religion that all things that affect climate is caused by Global Warming. So, Global Cooling is caused by Global Warming which is caused by Americans and specifically Republicans. The planet's climate has fluctuated forever but since George Bush became President, all climate changes were caused by him and no other factors...sun activity, volcanoes, etc. no longer affect climate, just conservative Americans.

We aren't in a global cooling, that is just what deniers say. Being cold in the winter isn't proof, just like being hot in the summer isn't proof. But when you begin to look at global climate patterns then you begin to see the warming trends.
