The South Is Essentially A Solid, Grim Block Of Poverty

Why is it that the worst performing states financially are primarily Republican states? If their ideas had any merit would we not see a bettering of conditions rather than the worsening conditions that prevail?

Right up until the government allowed the Fed to attack the lower and middle classes with their failing monetary policies in many places people could live O.K. on $24,000.

We were a family of 6 and I generally made less than that. We had what we needed.

Don't forget that Brownbakistan(Kansas) is getting into trouble with their great tax plans.

Most of the Southern states also have an unemployment rate higher than, or as high as my state and my state has the 2nd highest corporate tax in the country, behind California. Unlike California, that 9.99% is flat rate, not graduated like in CA, yet my state has unemployment lower than, or the same as "low tax" states of the South

Actually the headline of the article is this:

Today, 25.7 percent of all Americans live in such areas (povery areas), up from 18.1 percent in 2000, according to the report.

Be more concerned about 1/4 of the entire nation living on 23 grand a year or less (for a family of four) - spread out all over the country incidentally - than using this terrible news to smack down Republicans. Take a look at the map again Lucknow. And see not only those in the dark blue, but which states have 25-30% and which have 20-25% poverty levels. And then get angry at both sides for the crap-dinner they keep feeding us.

And Detroit completely failed due to unchecked liberalism.

California run by LSD (liberal/socialist democrats) has been flirting with bankruptcy for years now.
Kansas is fine.

Then explain why people keep fleeing those wonderful states like NY to move to these poor, hillbilly states.

I think you can't just make a blanket statement like that. It's not a (R) or (D) thing. There are far more variables at play than just a political jersey or philosophy.

And for a dose of reality consider this map from the Mercatus Center showing the fiscal health of the states:

The bottom 5: CA, MA, IL, CT, & NJ. All are solid blue states, and have been for a long time. 40-45 is heavily populated with blue states as well.

On the other hand, the top 5 are (all red): AK, SD, ND, NE and WY

Old people. They are retired and want better weather. Nothing to do with the economy. There's only 3 major economic centers in the Deep South, and that is Charlotte, Atlanta, and the Reesearch Triangle Park region in NC. Outside of these areas, the Southern economy isn't a very good example of what we should strive for
