There are 287 Republicans in Congress, and of these, there is only one African American, and he was selected, not elected. With the dismissal of Eric Cantor, there is nary another religious belief in the Republican Party than those who proclaim themselves "Christian".

It's no wonder that the GOP is afraid to put up or shut up about immigration, they can see the writing on the wall.

They aren't even Christian.

The far-right wing extremists espouse bigotry, believe corporations are people (who should ideally have more rights than individuals), worship wealth and power, enjoy war, and have violence/gun fetishes.

Jesus, to them, would be a left-wing "socialist," particularly with his free healthcare policy and his dislike of bankers. Remember that the ONLY time Jesus lost his temper was with the money changers in the Temple... and now we're to believe that the modern Republican Party / Tea Party, who is more in-bed with the bankers than ever before, is "Christian?!" It would be laughable were it not so pathetic.

Keep in mind that they just proclaim themselves Christian. A little research shows that most of them are not.

I don't believe Congress is as religious as the data shows - regardless of party. They will claim to be Christian or Jewish to get elected because they don't have the courage to say what they really are (such as atheist, agnostic, or indiffierent).

The title of this thread is also a misnomer - since it is really about Congress. It cannot speak to Republicans as a whole - since the vast majority of Republicans don't run for office.

I agree that the majority of Republicans are not Christian, as they love war and hate the poor. If they are "Christians" it is in name, not deeds. However, in order to get elected as President, you still have to be a "Christian", as polling puts the numbers at 58% of voters who would not vote for anyone but a "Christian" for President.

I suspect the vast majority of the other 42% (if the numbers are really that high) are not Republicans

Republican Party 100% Christian
Without providing the Democrats' stats for comparison, this is just pointless propaghanda. There may be one or two Dems that are something other than Christian, but it would not surprise me one bit if they are also 100% Christian. Hard to get elected if you're anything else, so any politician will at least claim to be Christian.

Well, just amongst Democratic Senators are 10 Jews, 3 "unaffiliated" and a Buddhist, so, no, not really...

House: 2 Buddhists, 1 Hindu, 21 Jewish, 2 Muslims and a handful of unaffiliated/unspecified/none.

The Democrats have a Muslim in the House of Representatives.
