Ho hum, there's a cost to willfully ignoring some realities, in the Bronx that cost is often a human life.
State Sen. Ruben Diaz blames ending stop-and-frisk for increased crime rates - News 12 Bronx

Quote:
A Bronx politician says the city was better off when stop-and-frisk was implemented.
Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-The Bronx) fired off Tuesday on the recent spike in crime across the city.
In a letter posted on his website, Diaz says criminals are running rampant because Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton got rid of stop-and-frisk. "While there are those who will argue against stop-and-frisk, statistics show that crime was better controlled and the loss of life was decreased," Diaz says.

The words are strong for his constituents--many of whom still appreciate the fact that stop-and-frisk was abolished under the new administration.
Diaz says there is a reason the policy seems racially profiling. "Sometimes we don't want to hear the truth... It is our black and Hispanic people who are the ones committing the crimes," he says.
The state senator says he has gotten a lot of feedback, mostly positive, from his letter.

Diaz is full of himself if he thinks stop and frisk would have prevented the shootings over the weekend.

Lots of murders could be prevented if we went house to house seizing all guns.

The blame lies in the 95% unemployment rate, among blacks in the city.

Bloomberg was right.

"The numbers showed that 87% of the people stopped under stop-and-frisk in 2012 were black or Latino, and that 9% were white. That same year, more than 90% of those identified as murder suspects were blacks or Latino; just 7% were white."

Mayor Bloomberg on stop-and-frisk: It can be argued

This may be true. There are few unwilling to hear that. Mr Diaz doesn't want to understand the truth that you can't just stop people on the street and search them without a reason.

There was a bunch of white's down on Wall Street that committed crimes and were allowed to get away with it also. Do you accuse me of being off topic? I'm not. It's all related.

Stop and frisk is simply unconstitutional. You guys do know that right? I believe they got like a 3% arrest rate meaning 97% of the people stopped and frisked were completely innocent.
