In order to bring the employment rate of any ethnic group up, one must first instill into that particular ethnic group, the desire to work. That's just a basic principal.
Here is what you do not know. In order to be considered unemployed you must be interesting in working, but be unable to find work.
Clearly 10% of the blacks interested in working CANNOT find work.
Do you even know what the labor force participation rate is?
Actually, you may not realize how right you are. I remember one night I was at a restaurant. There was a man, who happen to be White, who happen to be quite drunk. He was a young, tall, muscular college kid. The officer told him to go home, seeing his visibly drunken state. This kid went on a rant, yelling at the officer, telling him that he was singled out for being White, and claimed he would talk to some Republicans in the morning. The officer just sat there and looked at him, didn't even flinch. I had to think about how that kid could basically walk away. And this was a public venue.
Gates Jr, however, was at his own home. A sober, 60 year-old man who is kind of small, and has to use a cane for walking. He's in his own home. This, vs an early 20's drunken, behemoth student. Gates got arrested. He didn't have to yell at the officer, but the officer's reaction was quite stupid. If I was that cop, I would have just walked away.
And yet people justify Gates being roughed up by the cop.
Another parallel will be weed possession. Whites are as likely, maybe even MORE likely to use weed, yet the vast majority of those arrested PURELY for weed possession are black.
I'm surprised it's not MORE, given the much harder road Blacks must face, with each step. Kudos to those many Black people who are striving for all that is high and noble.

I don't agree. If you are a hard worker and black, employers love you and will hire and promote you in a heart beat so they can have a diverse workplace.

I know a whole lot of folks have dropped off the rolls and are no longer even being counted toward the unemployment rate. That is really sad. If one has been unemployed for a year, he has already been passed by in a lot of technical areas and already has a stigma cloud over his head. Clearly though, for every unskilled job out there, there are 100 unskilled applicants. The employer can take his sweet time and choose whom he wishes. That's just the way it is. Most folks who are electricians, heating and air techs, plumbers, etc., are fully employed.
From 1900 to 1954, blacks were more active than whites in the labor market. Until about 1960, black male labor force participation in every age group was equal to or greater than that of whites. During that period, black teen unemployment was roughly equal to or less than white teen unemployment. As early as 1900, the duration of black unemployment was 15 percent shorter than that of whites; today it's about 30 percent longer.
...
But the relevant question is: How much of what we see can be explained by discrimination? I doubt whether anyone would argue that the reason for lower unemployment, higher labor force participation and shorter duration of unemployment among blacks in the first half of the 20th century was that there was less racial discrimination. I also doubt whether anyone would argue that during earlier periods, blacks had higher education and greater skills attainment than whites. Answers must be sought elsewhere.

That is what hurts me so much. It is when people I know try to justify Gates being roughed up that hurts me so much. It is getting where I can't even trust some people I know, neighbors even. People who try to justify that stuff, I have to consider that if they were in positions of power, they would do the same thing, or treat Blacks quite poorly. It is a trust issue for me. Even with a loud demeanor in front of the police, I still say arresting him was not needed. To me, I think those police officers did it out of hubris and anger. It was an attitude of "how dare you, a Black man, not defer to us, how dare you disrespect us".
As for weed, well, I've known far more Whites who have smoked weed than Blacks. Out of that sample, when it came to who got arrested, what you said was the case. Higher likelihood of Blacks getting arrested. One thing that hampers employment, the drug war.
Population percentages are frequently meaningless. For example, 70% of 100,000 is less than 35% of 1,000,000... even though 70% is a higher percentage than 35%.
That's why it's important to go by the African-American population NUMBERS. Going by population numbers, more African-Americans live in blue states.

Yep, they're fleeing blue states for better opportunities in red states, particularly the better educated Blacks. An Obama voting Democrat discusses the recent massive migration here:
