Sixty-seven percent of voters said they support a plan that secures the borders, mandates employee verification, expands work visas and provides a path to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the United States illegally by their parents while providing other undocumented residents legal status, according to the poll for the pro-reform Partnership for a New American Economy.

Seventy-six percent dismissed the GOP argument about a lack of enforcement being reason not to move on immigration reform. Nearly as many, 71 percent, said they would rather vote for a presidential candidate from a political party that supports immigration reform.

The results were released as part of a “national day of action” by immigration reform groups. The Florida survey found 76 percent of voters think it is very important or somewhat important for Congress to act this year.

The poll was done for a pro-'reform' business-funded interest group. They love cheap labor. The national Chamber of Commerce supports 'reform.' They love cheap labor. Same for the R and D business wings. D's also want the votes.

Nothing can be 'reformed' without secure borders.

The securing the border NEVER HAPPENS.
Where did the current fence come from? It can be extended. Where did the new border security agents come from. We could hire even more. The bill was voted through in Senate with bipartisan support. Your disconnect is in the fact that you see this as Dems vs GOP, when it is really not.

There have been many polls and they all say the same thing. Vast majority of America, including most Republicans, want Congress to act.

That's what it is though. It's amnesty. Every one of these "comprehensive reform" plans has forgiving illegal immigrants for committing federal crime as a centerpiece. Yes, you're here illegally. Yes, that is a violation of several federal laws. But we have a "comprehensive" plan to make sure nobody ever cares about that, here's a welfare check, and by the way...vote Democrat!

It's pure fantasy to anyone paying attention. WE NEVER SECURE THE BORDER. WE BARELY ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAW (and there are lots) THAT CURRENTLY EXISTS. WE BARELY CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL EMPLOYMENT RIGHT NOW.

So every comprehensive plan says "make it easier for the illegals to become citizens, don't punish them for any crimes, and encourage them to pay taxes that natural born citizens are no particular fans of, and we promise that we'll enforce laws tougher than the ones we've ignored for the last 100 or so years. No seriously, this time we really mean it."

And really, it's hard to believe that anyone with an Internet connection and a 6 year old's critical thinking skills might say "uhm yeah, I don't buy it?"

It's amnesty. Plain and simple. All the "no no, these people will have strict blah blah, and tough bleh bleh and super duper hardcore enforced bluh bluh" rhetoric is pure bs. It's amnesty in order to get 20-30 million registered to the DNC asap. And of course the polls/media are in favor of such "reform." They are always in favor of anything that is so transparently helpful to their masters in the DNC.

The problem is that the Democrats want full open borders for years, amnesty with a pathway to full citizenship for EVERYONE, not to mention that "dreamers" would be able to bring their entire family over from other countries with full citizenship after a period of time. Acquiring legal status is different than acquiring full citizenship. It is very important to understand that the Democrats' position is to grant amnesty, pass liberal immigration reform that would be detrimental to America's economy, and THEN the borders will be closed after a long period of time, and they are not giving that up. The Republicans do not want to give full citizenship to everyone, but are willing to do so for the dreamers and certain others. They want the border closed immediately and the immigration laws to be followed.

Of course the bill wasn't going to pass. To his credit, Schumer worked in a very bipartisan manner to bring about the bill, but it was still unacceptable because the Democrats will never agree to immediately closing the border and giving up amnesty. They even want to cripple E-Verify.
Last I read those were the positions of Bush's two failed initiatives to pass immigration reform. It had bipartisan support but at the end of the day, Bush was unable to swing a majority of his own party to make it happen. He made enough noise about it and promised to achieve it in his second term that he was able to get more than 40% of the Latino vote in 2004.

These positions are the position of the bipartisan Senate Committee.

This is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue. A part of the Republican Party want to creates tens of thousands of new jobs in their states on the federal dime. And in doing so create the impression the borders are sealed. Too bad there is no fence high enough nor troops deep enough to put an end to the revolving door of illegal immigration so long as employers continue to hire undocumented workers.

Who exactly built the homes and commercial buildings in Texas and Arizona over the last 50 years? Who cleans the homes and offices? Who mows the grass? Who nannies the children? Who cooks the food and washes the dishes in the restaurants?

The US wants it's cake and to eat it, too.

Then I guess there is no point in talking about the bills which are only about border security.

All righty then.

A fence that children circumvent with ease. Oh dear lord, not a 12 foot barrier that can easily be climbed in seconds? Smoke and mirrors.

An agent told by their boss to NOT DO THEIR job is a waste of money and time. Hiring more simply wastes more of each. Democrats/liberals always point to "look how much we spent" as if dollars equate to results. If the laws go unenforced, on purpose, more law enforcement officers is absurd.

The GOP senators voted knowing full well that it would be for show and not amount to anything. Out of power votes are meaningless a lot of the time because you know your tough talk will never result in anything you can be held accountable for. And you guessed it, the House of Representatives and the Senate are like a thousand miles apart....oh wait, no they aren't, they're in the same freaking building. Yeah, not one GOP senator made a call to Boehner to make sure that the bill was DOA in the House, thus making their "compassionate" vote in the Senate great for campaigning and risk free from actually going into effect and giving their constituents a substantial reason to gripe.

What color is the sky in Naive Land?

Default Florida poll shows broad public support for immigration reform

That poll is crap. I live in Florida, and the majority do not want any more criminals entering our state.
Criminaliens have no place in our state. Kick them ALL out. We don't need any reform, just enforce
our laws now!

Correct.

People see everything though the partisan viewpoint, which is why they come across somewhat ignorant.
