Why does a president need to be in DC to do their job. It's just a place. And do you really believe that a president isn't in touch with everything that's going on regardless of where he is.

You can look for any excuse that you want to put down Obama but the reality is that a president never goes on vacation. They may be out of DC but they are still the president and sorry, they are in touch.

My problem with Bush and his 'ranch' was that he was there all the time, even when he should not have been...77 trips in 8 years. That's a long, long time to be 'cutting brush'.
As for the idea that somehow it's better if the President has a home of his own to travel to...can't you just hear the yelping from the Right if *this* president bought himself a 'compound' or a 'retreat'? Esp. if it were in Hawaii -- his home state.

I think of a president's 'home' is wherever he says it is. Bush's home should have been Connecticut but he wanted to be a Texan.
