....what's wrong with going back to that number?

Who exactly are we planning to go to war against with these Cold War annual defense budgets?

I agree.

The Military-Industrial Complex needs to be reigned in.

IMO, the defense budget needs to be reallocated, not cut. Needs to go towards industrial production and technologies, and NASA. Those defense contractors serve just as useful functions and have a lot of expertise, equipment, skills, and technology to get consumer and science oriented tech off the ground

Who in the world is "Dubya"?
In regards to the defense budget I think defense is necessary however, I don't think the United States should be sending everyone everywhere. Our country and borders should be protected and guarded first then if resources are available send troops elsewhere but only if it is absolutely necessary.

Agreed. If we park troops somewhere, it should ONLY be in Japan and South Korea. Unlike Iran and the rest of the world, North Korea poses a very real threat. Cavemen with beards are not scary; dictators with a crappy haircut, short temper, God-like status among the locals, and nuclear weapons are

Why even Japan and S. Korea? Those are wealthy nations that can defend themselves if we'd just let them.

Japan can't, and probably won't, because of their WWII past. South Korea not sure. But, we can't let madmen run around like that. There are good dictators and there are bad. You cannot keep a 100% isolationist stance in today's world, especially when you're in the G20

Its not just the Defense budget but take a look at the VA budget. In 2001 when Bush took office the budget was $48 billion for 25 million veterans. Now its $150 billion for 19 million veterans. The Senate just approved a bill that could boost the VA budget to $200 billion for those 19 million veterans. You can add that $200 billion to the $520 billion for defense. Romney and Ryan wanted to add another $100 billion to defense spending. If you are keeping track Defense would cost taxpayers $820 billion. Instead of focusing on where the money is being spent the Republicans turn to food stamps, school lunches, and Medicaid for cuts. It wont be spending on social programs that will lead to our collapse buy you can trace it right to our military culture...not a whole lot different than Rome or when the Knights were running around England extracting taxes from peasants...

If you're going to send folks into harms way, you darn well better be willing to fund the VA.

"Dubya" is a slang term for Mr. President Bush used by anti-Americans and/or terrorists who care to show disrespect to our nation.
