Microsoft added 30,000 employees from Nokia when it bought Nokia. So now Microsoft wants to get rid of redundant jobs.

Because neither are running the company my friend.

MS just bought Nokia. There is a huge overlap of skill.
All big companies do this when they buyout another company.

When IBM sold off their laptop business to Lenovo there was a mass layoff.
Yet that one didn't make top headlines.

This is business and how it works. Nothing to get outraged about.

I was going to buy a new laptop right around the time Windows 8 came out. But after hearing all the negative reviews about I decided not to. A family member bought a laptop with the Windows 8 operating system on it. After using that laptop with Windows 8 I'm so thankful I have a PC with Windows 7 as the OS.

Actually, the plan is for 18,000 layoffs.

Why should Microsoft keep people working that they don't need? That isn't good business. Typical liberal thinking.

Liberals think so.

All the new crap comes out with 8 on it and you can't load 7 because the drivers. They are forcing it..........and eventually folks will get used to it. Windows is 95% of the market. Companies will wait until all the glitches are worked out before moving over but they will in a year or so. Yippee. LOL

Look at the stock market.
That is not an indication of how the economy overall is doing, and it isn't "booming." And, it certainly isn't an indication that Microsoft needs those employees. I suppose you think you know what Microsoft's needs are.

Stock market is roaring..............like you say though it doesn't mean folks are getting jobs or the economy is "roaring". How much longer can they pump it up? Big crash coming.............very big crash.
