America is/was the land of freedom and opportunity and pursuit of happiness, right? And many of your ancestors escaped famines in Ireland or clearances by sailing. But when the illegal immigrants from Mexico want to do the same thing Arizona wants to profile them

The US isnt anti-immigration. in fact if you listen to the Republican closely they ALL to a man are calling for expanded LEGAL inmmagration, especially from MExico, and for making the process less cumbersome.

What some of us are against is ILLEGAL....because, you know... we have this funny idea that laws mean things.

The difference....most previous immigrants actually followed the law, went through the LEGAL immigration process, and contributed to this country. Whereas criminal aliens ignore our laws, want to leach off our taxpayers and turn this country into the same crapholes they left. We need legal immigrants with something to offer. We don't need criminals lining up for benefits.

We have always been anti-immigrant. Once someone gets in and buys into the we are "exceptional" BS, then whatever group of new immigrants comes in would have to be "not worthy".

Anti-ILLEGAL immigrant. We have plenty of legal immigrants coming in all the time. They're not the problem.

We are also a nation of laws, first and foremost.

The Administration of the US is in no-way anti-immigration. Record number of visas are given each year to people of almost all the nationalities. Some checks are required-there just cannot be open borders. I think that USA is far more tolerant on those people who broke immigration laws and are illegals. Legal immigration has not stopped in this country for many decades now.

The OP knows this. The site is full of these kinds of posts. I have to guess they are designed to get people's minds off the real problems.

We'd like to choose who gets to come here and keep the riff raff out. Those dudes with the face tattoos are not coming to the US to fulfill their lifetime dreams of becoming a dental hygienist or accountant.

What immigration?
Today we are experiencing a (non violent) invasion, a human tsunami. As any sovereign nation, the US has the right (and duty) to regulate the human waves arriving to its borders. Is there any reason to absorb poverty by the millions, when this country is already close to financial and social ruin? Is there reason to transform US into north Guatemala or Columbia?
