No one is "asking" or requesting anything of the residents of Hamas. No one is consulting them. They are attempting to stay alive and keep their families safe in the face of an over-whelming military assault.
Four hundred and sixty-nine dead Palestinians , thousands injured, mostly civilian, and 20 Israeli fatalities, all but one were military ---- how can this be fair or right? This is a massacre, not justice. It's not peace-seeking, it's an assault and war crime.
Cry me a river.. I won't lose any sleep for the loss of lives. They have asked for it. The Palestinians have aided and a bedded Hamas. They are getting what they have been begging for for decades.

The ugliness of humanity takes center stage in conflict.
So, the real question. After this action is over, a some of the Hamas terrorists rounded up and things get back to normal....just how long will it be before animals go back to launching missiles at Israeli cities, once again?
There will be peace in Gaza when Palestinians start to care more about their own children than they care about murdering Israeli ones. I don't hold out much hope for that any time soon.

Wow, how heartless you are. We should all lose sleep for the loss of innocent lives.
More fighting will never lead to peace. Never. It needs a diplomatic political solution that involves negotiation, good faith, compromise, humility, cooperation, and a belief in the equality of the rights of Palestinians and Israelis.
But hasn't every attempt in diplomacy ended in more fighting? If the Israelis give any land back to Palestine or pull settlers in the name of peace, the Palestinians consider it a "victory" and are even more inflamed to keep fighting. Any agreements they come to are moot, because the Palestinians are almost guaranteed to break their end of the bargain and start blowing stuff up.
Part of the problem is that the US, Europe, and Middle East all have different cultures and what would work in the west may not work in the middle east, and vice versa. The same people who will lament US or Western cultural imperialism applying a foreign and unfamiliar standard to indigenous cultures, but so is the case here. Our standards of diplomacy and social justice don't apply there, just as they don't apply here in China. Things that are nothing short of necessary in the west are abstract there; things that we interpret as fairness they interpret as weakness; things that we interpret as justice, they interpret as weakness. you can either take the "all cultures are beautiful" line or you can take the "some cultures are better than others" line but the reality doesn't change that different cultures work differently.
People accuse the Israelis and their supporters of racism almost as a matter of course, but if Israel uses heavy-handed and indiscriminate tactics it's evil, because they're whiter and more western and should know better. The Palestinians get a free pass because they are poor, nonwhite, and from a different culture... Basically, they arent capable of understanding our western ways, but by golly, we're going to keep applying our Western methodology of resolution to the situation anyways! Infantalising the Palestinians may assuage some guilt over Western dominance, but it doesnt remotely help the situation as it more or less indemnifies them of any obligation to act in a peaceful fashion.
Hamas screwed up big this time. They promised unrelenting war and now the chickens are coming home to roost. All the blood in this fight is on their hands.

Problem is, Hamas is confronting Israel for exactly the reason to provoke a vicious fight with Israel among the Palestinian people. This is where they will get their support.
Without a fight, they are irrelevant. That's why they keep shooting those useless rockets to nowhere and nobody. To provoke a fight.
Israel will kick some major ass and lot's of innocent Palestinians will die and everybody looses in the long run, except Hamas.

That's why although I'd obviously much rather none of this be happening and that there was peace in the region, if Hamas won't allow this to be the case, I hope they get destroyed.
Hamas has also been power-hungry and short-sighted, but that doesn't give Israel the right to commit war crimes and kill hundreds of innocent civilians and children.
Latest fatality count :
Palestinians - 469 mostly civilians, and ~ 20 % children
Israelis - 20 almost all military
The only way to fight a war and secure peace, is to dessimate both the ability and desire of the enemy to wage war.
Israel understands that. We should relearn that lesson.
