Atlantic City needs to open more casinos, increase promotions, build more condos, attract more jobs, more entertainment, etc. while tearing down housing projects, decrease crime, removing tolls, etc.
I have a new idea for the 3 casinos that are closing this year:
1. Make Revel the new corporate headquarters for Koch Industries.
2. Make Showboat the new corporate headquarters for Comcast.
3. Make Trump Plaza the new corporate headquarters for Walmart.
Truly, the three most hated companies in America should move to Atlantic City. At least those three can pay for the politicians of NJ to reside in those three casinos too and make Atlantic City the new capital of New Jersey.
Another reason for AC's downfall may be online poker, which has become huge the past decade or so.
I'd say that is not significant, considering that outside NJ it's hard to play online poker on any site that is worth your time, and so far, the legal NJ sites are barely worth a player's time either.

It would be the only thing Atlantic City can save itself.
Showboat is the second casino in Atlantic City to close down this year. It closed today (Aug 31). Revel will be next to close down, first their hotel will close tomorrow (Sept 1), then their casino will close the day after tomorrow (Sept 2). Later, Trump Plaza will be closed on September 16.
Anyone that thinks that these casinos are being created for the good of mankind needs to look at the social problems created. Politicians are only interested in yet another enterprise they can control and install their political cronies on gaming commissions.
Casinos have made money and in some cases even helped communities but with a huge downside. Promoting gambling is for politicians that are out of ideas and out of revenue and taking the easy way out to control deficits.
Gambling may work in Las Vegas and some other places but walk a few blocks outside the casinos in ACY and tell me if they elevated the standard of living.
Politicians are out of ideas, this is the last resort.
Revel closed down their hotel today (Sept. 1). Tomorrow, Revel will close down their casino. Revel has always been a failure since Day One. No wonder Revel filed for bankruptcy twice. If anyone ever opens a new casino in Atlantic City, I hope they learn a lesson from Revel.
All those retirees that I saw down there are not there anymore. Times are bad , inflation is up, cost of living is up and banks don't give any interest. SS Cola is ridiculous and Obama two years in a row gave the seniors nothing for a cost of living raise, yet the welfare crowd got a raise.
Many people have been cut their overtime or now have a part time job, and wage increases are stagnant. We make less and have to spend more on everyday living expenses. No wonder people don't have the money to gamble. It is all bad news . Take a look at the stores.. many are empty of people.
