Why are they there, how did they get there, who put them up and what does this mean when it comes to security of the Brooklyn Bridge? Lots of questions, lots of speculation, and a deepeing mystery. I'm intrigued.

Doesn't say too much for security, if you can get up there and change the flags it seems you could also get up there and place some plastique.

Someone should go up there and replace the white flags with the flag of Islam.

We have surrendered as a nation!

The fact that someone got up there and pulled it off, reinforces that fact.
Could have been explosives.

I heard yesterday that the flags were the same American flags that had been up there, the culprits took them down and bleached them at the scene, then put them back up. That is a massive flag, and its far more likely they brought two containers of bleach up there with a bucket then a whole entire flag.

What does it mean? Well its a universal symbol of surrender. Is that their intention? Maybe

In a free country, people are going to do things like this. No security is perfect.

Brooklyn is being gentrified big time.
I guess the old time residents surrendered to the DINKS and Hipsters.

MIT never figured out how a Volkswagen got perched on top of a campus flagpole either.
Pranksters do stuff like this just to see if it's possible.

If there are 6 of them, maybe they desire an amusement part to be built there.

I doubt an MIT flagpole had near the security the Brooklyn Bridge allegedly has.

Unless someone has a fertilizer truck bomb or similar what serious damage can someone (pedestrians in this case) do the the bridge?
