Yes, yes, yes, and there are over one and a half billon people who think that there is only one GOD (The Arab word GOD is roughly translated in English as Allah) and he is the GOD of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammed. History is replete with Christians every bit as evil as a Bin laden and such people exist today. For example the man who ordered the killing of 1600 unarmed people in Sebrenica because they were Muslim in the mid 1990s is a devout Serbian Orthodox Christian believer. Vladimir Putin makes a public show of his annual blessing by Patriarch Kyrill on Russian Christmas (Patriarch Kyrill is the "highest " Orthodox rite authority so Mr Putin must be a hell of a Christian).

Is it because they know Switzerland, Austria, Canada, and Brazil will "retaliate with a vengeance?"
No. Nothing against those countries, but they're so far down the list that they aren't worth attacking yet. Israel is a target because it is nearby. The US is a target because it is the biggest easiest target.

Because back then the US and other Western powers were also willing to "retaliate with a vengeance." So when Muslim pirates captured and enslaved US sailors the US went to war with them as opposed to the European countries who bribed them not to do it, and when the US's biggest warship was captured by these guys the Americans didn't give up they came back and kept fighting until the guys decided that they could leave Americans alone without being paid a bribe. Also lacking the ability to easily build and deploy large bombs their options were to shoot up crowds where many of the men would be armed or charge machine gun nests.

People who think the Middle East and it's problem doesn't affect us, live in a bubble.

That doesn't mean you should interfere in their affairs.

So what do "we gotta do?"

We were in Iraq for 10 YEARS. Is that not enough? Hell, World War II only took four years and that was a freaking WORLD WAR!

Seriously, what do you think is appropriate?

200,000 troops for 10 years?

100,000 troops for five years?

What?

Go on record. With all of your obvious military and foreign policy experience, what do you think the United States should do in that region in 2014?

Please.

It has nothing to do with them "hating us because of our freedom" and everything to do with our interventionist policies in the Middle East.

First it has nothing to do with Freedoms. Arabs follow Tribal rules and you have to retaliated against them with Tribal rules. The US, EU, UN concept of responding with words is a sign of weakness. Russia & China understand this Tribal concept very well. The nations you listed would go cry to the UN if they we're hit with 9/11 style attacks.

No, I live in the United States. And the United States should mind it's own damn business for a change.

Yeah..Still though, the United States went from being the most popular western nation among the Arabs to the most hated, and I don't believe that change in relationship is the Arab's fault. No way. They soured on us for a reason...actually, many reasons.

Those other nations aren't hit with those attacks because they don't meddle in Arab affairs.
