the assertion that most that apply at welfare to get food stamps are working is false. food stamp only applications a done by people who do not qualify to get TNAF. food stamps are automatic with tanf so work is not required if they go to school or training.
so those applying for just food stamps are ones that have less qualifications and resources and are often the harder to employ.
Here you go Huck.
Who gets food stamps?
The most recent*Department of Agriculture report*on the general characteristics of the SNAP program's beneficiaries says that in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010:
••47% of beneficiaries were children under age 18.
••8% were age 60 or older.
••41% lived in a household with earnings from a job -- the so-called "working poor."
••The average household received a monthly benefit of $287.
••36% were white (non-Hispanic), 22% were African American (non-Hispanic) and 10% were Hispanic. [USA Today, 1/18/12, emphasis original]
I seem to recall this applies to a incredibly small subset. This is political grandstanding, the amount of effort to sort all the people into different classes, find them volunteer spots, etc, and lawsuits....will completely wipe out any savings plan going on here.
And some of the folks here are complete sociopaths. "bring on the gas chambers and slavery YEAH!" What....the....heck...

Is SNAP tied to welfare in Maine? That seems to be the program they are ranting about. "Lifetime welfare" and whatnot. There is a 3 month limit per 3 years on SNAP.
Let's not take things out of context!
", Generally able-bodied adults aged 18 to 50 who do not have children and are not pregnant can only get Supplemental Nutrition Assistance for 3 months in a 3-year period unless they are working or participating in a work or workfare program. "

You mean like the retired, disabled and service members that have families and are lower ranking?

If they are retired they are not working, so you want to make grandma a indentured servant now. Good for you.
Are you going to pay for the daycare costs so a mother of several toddlers can go pick up trash on the side of the highway, you do know daycare is very expensive, don't ya.
I would suggest that the Gov is doing nothing more than Pandering to the hardcore Morons on the far right, and I know that he has not thought this out to consider all the issues with the idea. Sounds like someone wants this to be their last tour of duty as Governor of Maine.

The children can accompany the mother and help. Infants can be carried on the back.
