There is no need to negotiate with republicans because you already know what they will do. If something gives to the poor, working poor, or middle class republicans say "no." If something gives to the rich or large corporations republicans say "yes."
Obama can only negotiate (1) thing with republicans, and that's how big of a tax cut to give the rich. But Obama wants tax cuts for the middle class (not the rich), and there's nothing to negotiate.
Yes, I do blame him. Bill Clinton for all his faults was great at reaching across the aisle, for making an effort to find some common ground. Reagan was famous for it. President Obama doesn't even make an effort to have regular meetings with his own party leaders. Smoozing is part of the job and he sucks at it because he clearly thinks he is better than that.
He wants all of the perks and none of the responsibility. He's like someone who has had a trust fund all of his life. You can see it with his relaxed demeanor and Cheshire grin. He doesn't care what you think. He doesn't respect the office of the presidency, which was handed to him, and he's set for life and knows it.
So, just to be cler, Obama's at fault for not working with one Senator Mitch McConnell, who has repeatedly attacked *his own bills* as socialism and unconstitutional as soon as he hears that Obama supports them.

I've seen this quote from Larry Summers reprinted in several books, including 'Price of Politics' by Woodward:
Quote:
According to Lawrence Summers, who served as secretary of the treasury under Bill Clinton and director of the National Economic Council under Barack Obama, “Obama really doesn’t have the joy of the game. Clinton basically loved negotiating with a bunch of other pols, about anything. If you told him, God, we’ve got a problem. We’ve got to allocate all the office space in the Senate. If you could come spend some time talking to the majority leader in figuring out how to allocate office space in the Senate, Clinton would think that was pretty interesting and kind of fun. Whereas, Obama, he really didn’t like these guys.”
Also recall that Harry Reid suggested to Obama that he run for president because Reid saw that Obama was bored and disinterested as a US senator.
Obama may be just a guy who missed his calling. He is good at, and passionate about one thing, and that is campaigning. Once he gets into office, he seems to lose passion. He should have had a career as a campaign consultant rather than candidate.

But but but... Obama has a pen and a phone!
