I own a business in the tech industry. Here's the thing. None of us care if you're white, black, red, purple, female, male, or anything in between. We ONLY care about your skill and that is all. If blacks aren't represented higher in the tech industry, it's only because there aren't enough blacks majoring in STEM degrees. Easy solution - get a STEM degree and develop skills that would be desirable to a tech industry employer. Back when I started in IT, I was one of only two females in my entire major - oh and I'm half black to boot. Yet I graduated number one in my class and got the best job offers - even in a highly male work environment. Why? Because the ONLY thing the employers cared about was getting the best and brightest. Jesse Jackson is trying too hard to remain relevant and it shows by his constant tilting at windmills.
Nice story. Unfortunately, anecdotes are irrelevant.
Blacks are underrepresented in STEM. That is a fact. It is an institutional problem that starts in elementary and high school. Your notion of "easy solution" completely ignores the socioeconomics of this country. Most tech giants in this country get their talent from MIT, the Ivy League, and other Prestiguous Tech Schools. As long as there is a strong white male legacy pipeline to those schools, everyone else will have an uphill battle to climb.
The tech industry isn't "racist." This country just has historical barriers that minorities have to overcome.
The industry is cursed by cronyism, ignorance, good old boy networks, racism, sexism, and ageism all to the benefit of these two groups. It really exposes who are the perpetrators.
The cause that Jesse Jackson stands for is superior: stop the racism against black people. It is a cause that is superior to any that Conservatives stand for, and one Conservatives fear.

Tech get their talent from among lots of universities.
It's not just the big Ivy Leagues. Tech is way ahead of the pack when it comes to seeking out talent.
Now maybe they search out graduates from those schools for positions in R&D.
I worked as a software engineer in a major tech company for over 20 years and didn't attend any of those Ivy League schools. And among my peers none of them came from those universities either.
So I don't know where you are getting your info from but it's wrong.

Yep. It may not be even required to go to school to know tech. There is only a handful of them here at work and a number of them without any degrees. Many times it will be experience and skills.

Please - Asian isn't considered a minority? Besides which with the amount of African American scholarships which other races need not apply for and minority quotas established to erase these barriers - Johnny the underprivileged white boy has more barriers than Donny, the underprivileged black boy to attain a degree necessary for these jobs.
Again - everything has to come down to race which it isn't - there has always been a divide in certain job sectors throughout the years and being blacks only make up 12.6% of the population - there are going to be a smaller number of blacks in the tech field. Asians do well in the technical field because of their strong math and science backgrounds and their upbringing.
Of course, Steve Jobs was a staunch conservative. I remember him leading Apple employees in daily prayers before engineering that Bible App that became so popular.
Zuckerberg? Major Conservative. Don't you remember him wearing the pink "Pro Life" shirt in front of his local Hobby Lobby while sipping on a Chik-Fil-A soda?
Eric Schmidt, Sergey Brin, Bill Campbell. All of them are Republicans.
Sheesh, who doesn't know that Conservatives run Silicon Valley. They run it just like they run Hollywood, Education, and Social Policy.
Sorry Jesse. The opportunities are out there for all. Black people, if I were to stereotype, like to make babies, sell drugs and kill each other. Direct your energies in that area.
