At the same time that Fox News proactively encouraged their audience to support our president.

So name your spending cuts, and how much!

For me, my favorite off the cuff, is that we only spend as much on the DOD as the next 3 countries....combined.

Roughly that cuts out military spending from 640 billion, to 340 billion. An amazingly large number......

Boom I just cut the deficit in half.

Keep in mind, we would still be outspending the next three countries COMBINED.

Is it a good idea....Hmmmm given that china is stealing a TON of military research from us every year, they're getting that FAR cheaper then we can make it. Being in front sucks in some ways. Still, we'd be spending almost double what China does.
Agree in theory.

How many US jobs depend directly and indirectly on Defence spending including foreign military aid that pays for contracts with US manufacturers?

Too many. Just think how much better off all that money would be left in the private economy.

Just so ya now, this is a fine exercise in what many believe should be cut or reformed, but the reality it is nothing more than delussional thinking. None of the proposed cuts will ever go into effect, because for one none of us are Reps that could actually put in a Budget Bill, neither Party is willing to make any cuts to their pet programs and the other Party will simply road block any cuts to their pet projects and with compromises nothing gets accomplished. Neither Party cares a hoot about what the People want except to put out whatever rhetoric they believe people want to hear during elections, the rest of the time they work for, and are owned by, the power brokers with the most cash and political clout, why do you think Lobbists make so much money. This discussion has been going on since the web started including sites such as this, and guess what not one suggestion has ever been passed, no less even proposed in the House of Representatives, the Senate or the Whitehouse. So, enjoy the discussion, it is fun to wish, just do not think any of the proposals will ever really go into effect in reality, they won't, our representaives in the State Houses and Washington will see to that. Have Fun.

No Foreign aid to enemy countries.
No illegal freebees.
Children of illegals get no aid or declared citizens if born here.
Cut the pork spending
Have Obama's paycheck deducted for a lousy job
Stop Nafta trucks bringing over illegals
Cut the paychecks of the senate and house because they do nothing
Put illegals in labor camps to pay for their keep.
Take care of our own here in America.

Take more power away from the IRS. Let them know , they work for us.
Get rid of politically correct thinking , patting down grandma's and children in airports is over the top.
Get some common sense back in security details.
If Obama wants to take people on vacation, let it come out of his savings account, just like us small people.

Cut defense by 50%
Eliminate DEA.
Eliminate ATF.
Eliminate EPA.
Eliminate FEMA.
Eliminate the farm bill.

That would be a good start.

Correct, but nobody expects anything beyond this discussion. We know that government never voluntarily gives up power.

cut 90% of all federal budgets across the board, except the coast guard, navy, secret service, the patents office the bureau of Indian affairs and bureau of weights and measurements. also fire 90% of each department as well except for those listed above.

This is poorly crafted Left-Wing propaganda...

Misrepresentation

If the misrepresentation occurs on purpose, then it is an example of lying. If the misrepresentation occurs during a debate in which there is misrepresentation of the opponent’s claim, then it would be the cause of a straw man fallacy.

Suppressed Evidence

Intentionally failing to use information suspected of being relevant and significant is committing the fallacy of suppressed evidence. This fallacy usually occurs when the information counts against one’s own conclusion.

None of the public laws dictate the amount of money to be spent, rather they provide a framework. It is the Secretary, Agency Director or Office Head who writes the regulations which determines how much is actually spent.

Seeing how Obamacare provides eligibility for children up to age 26 years, the Secretary of Housing & Urban Development with a stroke of a pen can alter eligibility for HUD Section 8 to those persons 27 years and older.

Congress can also change or eliminate the laws any time it wants.

7 USC 2014 (b) Eligibility standards Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, the Secretary shall establish uniform national standards of eligibility....participation by households in the supplemental nutrition assistance program in accordance with the provisions of this section. No plan of operation submitted by a State agency shall be approved unless the standards of eligibility meet those established by the Secretary, and no State agency shall impose any other standards of eligibility as a condition for participating in the program.

Note "uniform national standards."

Some are just hell-bent on destroying this federal republic and replacing it with a unitary-State.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

Johnny got his gun....

Oddly, I do wish to propose what would be a tax increase: I would like to see a return to a punitive rate on very short term capital gains: You hold that stock for 6 weeks or less, 75%, 60 months or less, 60%, 2 years 40%, hold it over 2 years, taxed as ordinary income. There was a lot of praise for the last Obama/Boehner tax deal, what was not very much discussed, except for maybe Limbaugh was that the current in place tax deal actually applies a higher tax rate on those moving up the ladder than to those already there, kinda disincentivises success. From what I observed during my time in corporate America is constant pressure to get quick 1 day rises in stock price at the expense of longer term vision. I think changes in capital gains tax rates brought that on and I'd like to see that changed.
