For example are conservatives in Nebraska different from those in Alabama or Utah or the Northeast? The only thing that I find different living in NEbraska is that while there is a strong Christian element it's not as evangelistic and preachy and also there ironically is still support for some big government programs (farm subsidies, public power, higher taxes for infrastructure) where as people from Texas or the south would probably equate public power with socialism. So how different are conservatives in different parts of the country. Liberals to me don't seem as divided on geography except that Democrats in the south and mountain west tend to be more moderate.

I'm on Long Island, conservatives here tend to be more fiscal conservative (though not so much the tea party type) and law and order conservative. Religious social conservatism doesn't have much influence or pill even among the conservative crowd.

Like all political parties, there are differences even within one party. In my own state, our Republicans are largely divided between christian conservatives in the northern part of the state and fiscal conservatives in the southern part of the state. So yes, there may be some regional differences. This is to be expected.

NH conservatives are, in general, libertarian. Unlike southern conservatives religion does not play a big part for most of the officeholders in NH.

As a transplanted northerner, all I can say is ^^^^^THIS ^^^^^

I was once a conservative because I was in favor of smaller government and less taxes. I still have those core beliefs. Southern Republicans, who want a Christian controlled government pushed me to the other side, though. They gave me no choice. I mean they're seriously NUTS and DANGEROUS. These wingnuts are killing the Republican party. Conservatives in New Hampshire would laugh at these ads. Here's just the tip of the iceberg:

Northeast Republicans are fiscal conservative
Midwest and Alaska Republicans are religious and democratic views don't appeal to them because it does not effect them
West Republicans are half them are republican because they are rich and selfish (IE: Orange County). While the other half is because of the rural setting.

The only one different then everybody else is the south. The sole reason the south is conservative. Not even conservative but vote republican because black people vote democrat. It is the old battle of the south were black and white are still against each other. A southern white can be more liberal than one from Vermont but will vote republican. A black person can be real conservative like GARep Sanford Bishop but will be a democrat. Except for the early 20th century when everybody liked FDR and Truman. Southern whites will always be in the opposite party of African American with the exception of southern dems Carter and Clinton. Obama, Kerry, and even Gore did overwhelming bad with southern whites. Maybe they still fill betrayal because of 1964.

, Southern Ct, where I grew up, was the same way. They will never vote for a social conservative, even if they are fiscally conservative, but fiscal conserv who is socially moderate can win.

I fully concur. I'll NEVER vote for a social conservative, no matter their fiscal views.

In Oklahoma, the conservatives are religious right oriented, especially when a preacher is elected as a legislator and says the reason he was against something was because his church members were against it.

Well throughout the bible belt you have the bible thumpers who pretend to be conservative. They go along with things as long as the party tries to impose a religious state but otherwise by and large they're happy to see us spend and borrow and they really don't care in general about individual freedoms unless it's freedom of religion. They mostly call themselves conservative because of abortion.

We get closer to real conservatism when bible thumpers aren't involved.
