The Texas legislature's tactic of trying to outlaw abortion by piling on restriction after restriction has been partially refuted today. Of course they have no legislation regarding other health matters, only abortion. They have failed to cite even one example where a woman has died b/c she has not had admitting privileges, it is all 'theoretical.' They have done absolutely nothing to prevent another accident like West, Texas yet they target women who actually do know what is going on with their bodies. They have no respect for 41 year old supreme court decisions which they forget they are subject to (maybe they have delusions of nationhood that causes this). And it was a 6-3 decision so they cannot say it was close.

I agree with the admitting privileges requirement that was partially upheld. The rest seem to be arbitrary.

Maybe they'll soon be like California where the governor, in the interest of making sure that women have 24/7 access to abortion recently approved a law saying that abortions no longer need to be done by doctors.

It's not like it medical care. It's a right.

I'm glad they stepped in. I think it's obvious that they are showing that there is a limit to how far states can go with this stuff.

I'm guessing the Chief Justice joined in on this one.

Well-said. Many Texans agree that the state has no say in such personal matters.

The main problem I had with this law and the reason I figured it would, eventually, be struck down (although it is not yet final), is due to the 'targeting' i.e., the law only addresed those clinics that offer abortion, requiring them to have admitting privileges and an in-clinic surgical center.

Yet, the law did not target those other clinics that perform other surgical procedures such as extraction of wisdom teeth, vasectomies, or colonoscopies.

This article does a pretty good job of listing those procedures the law does not target:

Here Are Some Medical Procedures Texas Regulates Less Than Abortions | Dallas Observer

I guess it would fall under the 'equal protection' clause. Treat all clinics the same.

I hope they close the clinics in Texas, the state would do a good job to protect the innocent babies that are killed. Any abortion clinic that shuts down is a wonderful thing.
