Probably because they think America benefits from being an imperial power. BTW I find it funny that Americans are comfortable with calling the US a superpower but refuses it to call it an empire. A great power is essentially imperialist in nature as it has the ability to exert its power and influence over a global scale. There has never been a great power that has not been imperialist in nature. In fact you can argue that imperialism often precedes the attainment of great power status.
Obama is creating havoc around the world, alienating every former ally and trashing our economy and currency.

Now how it is you define why you mean by imperial power since the classic definition does not fit into anything America is doing at thi time
Many Americans support out Imperial dreams because their jobs depend on military spending and many of the corporations they work for are totally dependent on government contracts. In addition many of our investors would rather cut a deal with a dictator than have to actually compete for business in our client states.
The main reason for any empire is profit for a few at great expense, including casualties in our military as well as countless deaths in the local populations, for the many. We are even fighting for the corporate investments of foreign companies such as BRITISH petroleum and the tyrannical Saudi Royals.
This will eventually, if it has not already, replace our Republic with a corrupt plutocracy.
