The same could be said for GW Bush the liberal left claimed he was stupid but some how he tricked the entire world into a war with Iraq.
You guys really need to get your facts straight

When you add up all those adjectives to describe Obama do you know that he represents a majority of this country. It is people like you that are in the minority. Also you have several contradictions for example Arabs are a semitic people so how can he be anti-semitic. Nazi's sent communitist and socoalists to the death camps so his Nazi side would wantr to kill his Communist-Socailaist side. Finally, homosexuality is a lethal sin in the Muslim world.

America is an Imperial power because it has to be, Our economy and our entire way of life depends on it.
It started after WW2, and it's not a left or right issue both sides have started wars to keep the great corporate machines fed. We have no other choice if we allow the world to go to hell we kill ourselves.
Before WW2 we may have been able to be isolationist, that choice is gone now.
Even if we somehow manage to elect a president like Ron Paul, he would never get anything thru congress there corporate masters would never allow it, and he would most likely be a immediate lame duck or out right assassinated.

The global powers of the world the USA, Russia, EU, China. are currently empire building but not in the old sense the new empires are based on resource control.

Iraq is a great example, the war there was to install an American friendly government, so we could control it's resources, but now this ISIS is threatening this so they will be put in there place or out right destroyed.

Us peasants are merely along for the ride, now go to work and pay your taxes bombs cost money you know!

Isolationist policy is bad policy. That is what made wwII so deadly. We stayed out of it but we were pulled in by the japenese anyways. If we took on hitler and his allies earlier more lives would have been saved. Heck if hitler didnt make the mistake of attacking russia we would be under nazi rule right now.

We should not be the worlds police but we must stand up against genocide regardless of the value of thst country to us. We also need to take out any country or group that has declared war on us. You do not take those threats lightly. Its too easy for a small group or even one lone trye believer to cause american lives to be taken. I cant believe how many down play 911, the boston marathon blasts, etc. Those who think its ok because the are over there in the middle east and cant hurt us here are very very very nieive.

Wake up! I have been saying for years what happens in israel today will happen in usa tomorrow. Radical islam wants to take over the world. It has history with nazi germany and has world domination in the koran. If you have not read that book, you must! It is not a pieceful religion and those who practice it piecefully are just as much a target of the fanaticals as us jews and christians and all the worlds other religions are to them. Don't assume you are safe here because they can't touch you. This threat is real and if those who want to hide thier head in the sand think thats the way to go, fine... Just dont get in the way of those of us who see the threat for what it is. Let us lead. Stop getting in the way by saying groups like hamas are pieceful. Or that israel is at fault.

These groups only have one thing on thier mind... A world muslem state with no non believers left alive. No appeasement will save you.

Ceasing to be an Imperial Power will be cause for celebration, not crying.

There's more than one alternative, the best being we stay strong enough to defend ourselves and go about the business of trying to improve America and let other countries do the same for themselves.

I agree we should scale back.

However, Obama - Mr. Hope and Change - has actually increased military bases abroad. He has also increased the amount of countries that we bomb against the countries' will with drones. He has also doubled the amount of countries that special forces have been active in compared to under Bush.

So this should be a non-issue with the mainstream until a Republican wins.

This is quite the dichotomy.
I wonder how some alleviate their conscience on this matter.

They want a small government to do as they please here but want a Big Global Government backed by the tools of the military to do as they please outside our country, in other peoples countries.

The constitution seems to be quoted when it comes to objections on helping our our fellow citizens and is ignored when it comes to not minding our own business and sticking to purely defensive measures.

There is a name for these types. NeoCon Global Fascists

People who blame US foreign policy disasters on this president or that party are completely missing the point.

It's on *us*.

Every time I hear someone saying something like "But we have to do xxxx...", and everyone else in the room/on the panel/posting on the board/writing op-ed columns/letters to the editor engages in a vigorous exchange on what we should do, which army we should support, which political faction we should send the CIA to help, I just want to scream.

The very concept that it is our job to do something, that we need to march into someone else's home and fix up what we perceive as their mess is *exactly* what the problem is.

I'm not an isolationist by any means. I believe in international efforts and exchanges. But it is on *us* to pay attention to the ordinary people of the world - not necessarily their governments - and ask them what they need, and listen to what they tell us.

Did the Iraqi middle class need us to impose Saddam on them and then 20 years later reduce them to one or two hours of electricity a day as a consequence of reining Saddam in? Did the Iranians need us to depose their elected president? Did Afghani peasants need us to drop bombs on them? Do Palestinian farmers need Israelis to take their land from them? Did Chilean mothers need Pinochet?

I believe America has given great gifts to the world, including the idea of a government organized around being responsive to what ordinary people want for themselves. The way to spread this idea around the world is surely not with invasions and bombings and secret plots.

I don't have a lot of answers in this arena. But I know for certain that we ask the wrong questions.
