It's obvious he's making a statement with the surcharge,
No, let's get it straight here..... He's not making a statement with the surcharge. He's making a statement by telling people why the surcharge is there, but that surcharge would be there whether he made a point of saying why, or not.
It's only common sense. Businesses have to make a profit. The more operating costs a business has, the more they have to charge for goods and services to be profitable....

but how is this statement in the best interest of anybody?
Well, it seems that a lot of people are too dumb to figure out that voting for an increase in the minimum wage will naturally make goods and services cost more, so this is a good way to educate them and show them how supporting such policies will effect them personally.....

I go to rrstaurants to eat, not for the owner's politics, so how does thumbing his nose at the law benefit his employees?
The extra costs that are incurred by raising the minimum wage can be made up for in different ways. Aside from charging more for goods and services, an employer may also need to cut staff, or simply not hire as many workers. By letting customers know what effects this law will have on them personally, they will be less likely to support it, and that helps prevent people from supporting terrible policies that will result in things like layoffs and slowed growth for businesses....

So, the owner is helping his employees by educating the public? Sorry, I don't see it. Thirty-five cents is not going to break anybody. This is a case of someone with too much politics on his mind, and not enough business.
So, the owner is helping his employees by educating the public?
Sure.... If he can prevent customers from supporting policies that will lead to layoffs and cutbacks to his staff, I'd say that is helping his employees keep their jobs.....

It's a lot more than 0.35 cents. You think he is the only business owner who's going to be raising prices to make up for the mandated increase? I highly doubt it. He may be the only one making it a point to tell customers why they are being charged more, but he won't be the only one charging more. When we're talking about cents, it doesn't sound like much, but an extra .35 cents to go out to eat, an extra .12 cents on the toothpaste, and extra quarter on that gallon of milk..... after awhile, it adds up to dollars. So in the end, the employees making minimum wage don't have the extra money in their pockets that politicians who pushed for the law promised, and the people who didn't get the raise will start to notice that their dollar isn't going as far { because things cost more }
That's an excellent idea.
Big Business could teach the public where their dollars are going.
I would like to see the owners profits after all expenses paid and decide as a consumer if I wish to go there are not.
I'll never step foot in a Walmart again for example, not so much because the Walton's are Billionaires, but also because I as the tax payers am also helping footing the bill to enrich them via food stamps, welfare and so on. They can afford to pay more but choose not to. F them!
This cafe on the other hand I would eat at.
^ uninformed Obamabot that doesn't understand how things work.
And the highlighted portion is the leftist stupidity run rampant.
The owner can do whatever he wants regarding price, but this is a political stunt. He's well within his rights to do so, but if it were me, I wouldn't turn my business into an outlet for political opinion.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure if he agreed with you, you wouldn't mind.

That is so true. People really don't understand the consequences of what they champion.
They are told that business is greedy and hoarding money and they can easily afford to pay more.

You are mischaracterizing 'the liberal' position. The call is for a 'living wage' where those who work full time don't have to be supplemented with tax dollars. Full-time Walmart workers are still eligible for government assistance and many workers and managers at the local upscale mall are in subsidized housing. Retail wages have never been high but it was possible to survive on it.
