The US is giving Israel $hundreds of millions to support its Iron Dome rocket intercept system. Israel claims an 85-90% success rate but independent examinations by rocket expert Ted Postel show it to be closer to 5%. It's an expense high-tech feel good/moral project that does little against Hamas rockets. Iron Dome ("Iron Dome" sounds impressive) rockets work on a proximity principle, detonating close the incoming rocket with the shrapnel intended to down the enemy rocket. This works when meeting the incoming rocket head-on but video and photographs show the Iron Dome rockets ineffectively approaching from the side or from behind.
Postol notes that Hamas rocket attacks are part of an "intended game." "Hamas fires its relatively small, generally inaccurate, and largely ineffective rockets into Israel from Gaza, knowing from past experience that Israel's response will likely involve air strikes that will, despite the accuracy of Israel's high-tech weaponry, kill innocent civilians and, Hamas hopes, make Israel seem a callous oppressor in the eyes of the world.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government presents Iron Dome's performance as part of a sophisticated public relations effort that aims to persuade the broader public that Hamas is a heartless and calculating terrorist organization and Israel's defense forces are decent, determined, and effective."
This is an almost 5 year old thread. Just shows how little the world has changed. I actually think Iron Dome worked too well the last time it went to work. Just because they were shot down nd did little damage, Hamas was left off the hook. Now they are coming back for more. In the end, you can't win this war just by missile defense. It'll bankrupt you.
They need to build a wall, everyone knows a wall is the best solution !
Egypt has a wall with the Gaza Strip that is taller and deeper into the ground than any wall in Israel. The Gazans were still able to bypass it. So Egypt put in a moat which has done a much better job than a wall which has been over 95% effective. As long as the ruling government is willing to sacrifice lives to penetrate the walls, the fences and any thing else there will never be a 100% effective solution.

The current tracking system tracks trajectories. Whatever gets tracked to be heading to open fields, will not get shot out of the air. With yesterdays ~460 rockets/mortars that were fired out of Gaza and less than a dozen structures actually hitting anything, one death (a Palestinian) and a few dozen Israeli's hurt the Iron Dome did it's job w/o having to spend ~$23 Million to do so.
As to Hamas being left off the hook, they already got another truce today.
Israel reaches cease-fire with Palestinian terror groups after 2 days of rocket violence
