Sounds to me like a teacher insecure in her own beliefs.
That is what the girl claims the teacher said, but everything else looks like the student was being disruptive and received in school suspension from that class because of it.
There was a no-talking rule, and the child violated it. Further, she decided to be a smart aleck about it. Children today are too rude and need to know their place.
Two things, first the girl violated the no talking rule which has nothing to do with what she actually said, and two, why is this news worthy? Local Fox news channels find the dumbest things to make news stories.
Neither the teacher or the student said that there was a no talking rule.
The article said there was, which we can only assume that information came from the teacher. You are welcome to confirm that if you are that interested in this if you want.
"Student says". Who knows what student left out?
I'm a photic sneezer. And a Christian. I tell DH and others, please quit saying "Bless You". There's nothing godly about it, it doesn't remotely help, and I can only imagine how irritating it must be for folks around me after hearing it 45 times in 20 minutes. It's bad enough they have to put up with my sneezing, why should they have to listen to blesses after every one?
I'd ban it too if I were a teacher, and Jesus wouldn't think any less of me for doing so.

I've had students where it wasn't what they said but the way it was said that was the issue. I had one last year who would stand up, spin around and SHOUT "bless you" just to be disruptive and then claim I was calling her out for something others do. She's also do fake sneezes or coughs as loud as she could. Anything to draw attention to her and then claim I was unfair if I called her out.
Sometimes you just have to be there to understand the real issue.

Sneezing is disruptive.
Was the sneeze "willful"?
That is the real question.
Did anyone try to get to the bottom of it?
