The Duggar family, an Arkansas family who are politically right of everyone except like two other people, are the subject of the latest People Magazine cover. We know that "the media" is left of center, so why is it promoting a show with this kind of family values? The Duggars are against everything the libs are for, like abortion, pre-marital sex, public schooling, hospital birthing, birth control, and they can't even like mainstream religion.
It could be only because they are money makers, but in order to be money makers, they must resonate with America. If they resonate with America, why would the Liberal media choose to promote them?
My theory is that they were originally to be depicted as aberrant, backward hicks, but once the dollars started rolling in, they became the vehicle for networks to say, "See, we're in favor of traditional family values."
The great part is, the Duggars seem to be winning, and I hope they are making big bucks off of the networks.
As a liberal, I am going to guess their popularity, in part, stems from their ability to live their lives they way they choose without them telling me how to live mine...
They are having another wedding. Big money in TV weddings.
Honey boo boo was also in people magazine, does that mean that overweight, uneducated, trailer trash resonates with America?
No, it means that people on TV are celebrities, at least for a few minutes.

Some things become popular because they're unusual, slightly alien to us, a bit freaky, but similar enough that we can slightly relate. It's like watching a car accident scene.
There is no great mystery here. Freaks always sell magazines, so why not put them on the cover? And to most Americans, having 19 children and counting is freakish behavior.
People are naturally drawn to the strange and unusual, and magazines are in the business to make money. Mystery solved.
