I always find it funny that so many people who bash Wal Mart for macroeconomic reasons shop at Amazon.

WM is planning a major revamp of their online presence starting in 2015. Amazon is the new standard now and WM will be chasing and copying them. WM really needs to be more innovative, which will help them stay close to Amazon in growth.

WM is opening Neighborhood Markets in some locations which are just stand alone grocery stores. But Amazon is also getting in the grocery business by delivering directly to a shoppers home.

Its ironic because Amazon took WM's playbook and is beating them with it. Amazon has lower overhead and is building strong partnerships with suppliers just like WM has done, which helps Amazon negotiate lower prices while making a nice profit.

Walmart has never really been very popular on the urban West Coast. At least not compared to the absolute dominance it has over much of the South and Midwest/Rockies. Oregon didn't even get a Walmart until 1992.

Yes, Amazon is nothing more than WalMart in a chip. They are non union and work their people to the point where they have used an on-call ambulance service for workers who collapsed.

The CEO is supposedly libertarian, but he consistently donates to our liberal Democrat Sen. Patty Murray.

Maybe it depends because the Walmart here did not look much cheaper than Safeway, which isn't exactly cheap either.

Most workers seem sad. Don't like to help when asked. They need to focus on engaging customers. Customer service is key. We like the interaction.

No need to spend money on gas either. Unless I need them right away, I purchase all my auto parts online, a lot cheaper.

Funny that being online is presented as a reason since you can shop online at Walmart, even for products never found in the stores, often with free shipping and, if preferable, can pick up at a store minus any delivery charges if there would be any.
What's not to like? And, should a return be necessary, take it to a store...no PITA shipping back or fighting over a refund.
Maybe Walmart needs to make more people aware of this?

Yep, they always grease the palms on both sides of the aisle and just a example of how great our democracy has become.

I can drive to 3 Walmarts and 3 Targets in 10 minutes. Only 1 COSTCO, though.

Online shopping has been and will continue to challenge all brick and mortar retail establishments, big box and mom and pop.

Use of robotics in wharehouses to stock and fill orders is substantially more productive than using humans.

Those without marketable skills will continue to be challenged to find/sustain employment no matter who sits the oval or holds the majority. This is a global situation.
