Pure urban myth, nothing more.

And IF the threat of bin Laden was so well known perhaps you'd care to explain just WHAT Bush/Cheney did in attempting to curtail him prior to 9/11? Or were they just too busy planning the pre-ordained invasion of Iraq they were fixated on to look at the real threats?

In the real world, one would come upon the title of this thread and assume it was about Bush/Cheney, the architects of the latest ME fiasco. There can be no doubt in any sane person's mind that those two and their war hawk buddies are the ones who "broke" Iraq.

But of course, this is C-D, so naturally, it is all Obama's fault.

My god some people need help.
I have to agree with you there, the Mid East has been dysfunctional for many, many decades. I do think Obama has been doing exactly what a lot of people have desired, and that is to just sit back and let them kill each other. But then as we see the ugly truth of the Mid Eastern brutality and inhumanity they inflict on innocent people, many of those same people don't like what they asked for.

Keeping track of what is going on the Mid-East is both difficult and complicated. Let's have a reality check here - it is August of 2014. We better start dealing with "what is" and stop this useless and constant whine about what was going on a Decade ago.

"Broke the Mid-East" has a lot of consequences - I think one of the most serious is that the USA is held in such low regard. A lot of these people didn't think they liked Bush at all (and it's true they didn't), but they never guessed the devastation that Team Obama would bring to them. Secretary Kerry is not even welcome at the Israel/Palestinian talks .... and that "war" has been going on for a month and getting worse by the day. Lebanon is now firing into Israel and Israel is returning fire. ISIS is invading Lebanon, Lebanese Hezbollah is fighting in Syria and Lebanon is on the verge of a Civil War.

Libya is on fire, with Islamists battling for control, a new Parliament battle and to top it all off ..... the New York Times has reported today that Egypt & the UAE (United Arab Emirates) has been launching Air Strikes on Libya and (pay attention now) they didn't even give the USA a Head's Up. That is incredible and you can bet that Team Obama is very P.O'd about it. Can anyone actually remember when an Arab Nation launched fighter jets and air strikes against another Arab Country - ON THEIR OWN ..... not part of some "coalition", but Arab vs Arab without even giving their supposed Ally (the USA) a Head's Up??? My in House Expert (who can give dates for all this stuff) can't recall it ever happening before.

Egypt and United Arab Emirates Said to Have Secretly Carried Out Libya Airstrikes - New York Times 8/25/14

For this to have happened, and it DID happen - it involved Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E.- and it's a HUGE slap in the face to the USA, that we were not even informed about it. They hated Bush, but they didn't dis-respect Bush the way they do Obama. It's a serious problem when they can't even pick up the phone for a "Head's Up" because they Don't Trust the President of the USA.

As usual - Our intelligence people, our Defense People and Team Obama had NO CLUE and were caught "by surprise". We have (as of a 2012 report) over 800,000 people working in USA Intelligence - they are always "surprised" by these events. What in the Hell are they doing?

It's not the duty of the United States to fix the Middle East.

Of course it's not. On the other hand - being a laughing stock that even our Allies want nothing to do with .... is not "optimal". There is a Middle Ground, but not for those who are totally convinced that the extremes are the only options. People don't bother to even think anymore - everything is "optics", "spin" and pure politics. Nothing any of us can do about it now except to "hope" a sane person comes along that is more concerned with a long view than a Fund Raiser and personal Politics.

One of Obama's signal accomplishments is leaving Iraq (on the timetable that Bush signed.) One of the 113th Congress's signal accomplishments is refusing to authorize action in Syria.

Nothing is worth going back with combat forces into that maelstrom.

If our "allies" (something we shouldn't have and don't need.anyway) don't want anything to do with us anymore, that's GOOD news...not bad news.

Why don't our "allies" tell us to stop defending them and remove our troops from their soil if they find us to be so reprehensible?
