Reuters has an interesting article about how islamic prophecy of an "end times" battle fuels muslim fighters on all sides.

Apocalyptic prophecies drive both sides to Syrian battle for end of time | Reuters

Quote:
If you think all these mujahideen came from across the world to fight Assad, you're mistaken," said a Sunni Muslim jihadi who uses the name Abu Omar and fights in one of the many anti-Assad Islamist brigades in Aleppo.

"They are all here as promised by the Prophet. This is the war he promised - it is the Grand Battle," he told Reuters, using a word which can also be translated as slaughter.
Quote:
On the other side, many Shi'ites from Lebanon, Iraq and Iran are drawn to the war because they believe it paves the way for the return of Imam Mahdi - a descendent of the Prophet who vanished 1,000 years ago and who will re-emerge at a time of war to establish global Islamic rule before the end of the world.

According to Shi'ite tradition, an early sign of his return came with the 1979 Iranian revolution, which set up an Islamic state to provide fighters for an army led by the Mahdi to wage war in Syria after sweeping through the Middle East.
I had no idea that islamic eschatological (end times) prophecy was playing such a large role in the fighters' mindset... hasn't been reported on much.

It's a religious war so why wouldn't it be the driving force ?

Of course it doesn't take front stage in MSM reporting because it does not serve the government's purpose.
The meme is they are the boogieman out to get us so we have to get them first.

The ME troubles has always been entrenched in religion from the onset of time.

I had no idea there were specific end times/ messianic prophecies the fighters feel they're fulfilling by gathering from the world over. It explains in part the sudden energy and momentum ISIS has developed.

So lets give them what they believe. A mushroom cloud.

The Koran and Islam are gobbledygook to me. When I am presented with a bible verse I have a frame of reference and an understanding of its importance and historical interpretation - not so with the Koran. If a Muslim tried to interpret Bible verses to you you'd probably say he had it all wrong. The Reuters article gives no specifics but Wikipedia is my Islam for Dummies friends and good starting point - but perhaps all we need to know is religious wingnuts cleansing the earth for the end times because an all powerful God is offended and can't take care of business himself.

The Mahdi - Wikipedia
Islamic view of the Last Judgment- Wikipedia

"Allah will protect Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) followers, he will assist them with*signs and portents*and will give them total victory over everyone on earth.*willingly or unwillingly, people will thus enter the true faith."

It would seem to me that for groups like ISIL,Hamas,A.Q. etc the apocalypse isn't happening quick enough so they think it's their job to speed it along.

It's in the Bible as well. Read Revelations..even the US is mentioned symbolically.

Life began in the ME and will end in the ME.

But it's not ISIS specifically. Notice each time we "crush" them they come back stronger and more violent than before ?

You can't mock Muslim prophecies if you believe in God, gods, prophecies, and/or Biblical prophecies.

its time to install a fake prophet with a big light show, and then lay down the new version of the Quran laws..

lust a few that come to mind, feel free to add to the list..

law one.... all Muslims shall treat all infidels with dignity and respect, all that fail shall burn in the hell fire for eternity..

law two... all Muslims shall eat pork 5 times a day..

law three... all Muslim woman shall have the same freedoms and respect as men..

law four... all Muslims shall walk backwards at mecca...
