That would be news to the savages in the middle east and African nations. As well as Americans who fail to realize the average gang member is 15 years old.
Judging the level of responsibility by age always has been a losing proposition. Age of reason by law is for the convenience of lawyers, legislators and law suits.
Now if the kid's school had a firearms saftey course this might not have happened.
Judge the kid without looking at the birth certificate.
Instructor made a fatal mistake, wasn't paraniod enough about gun safety. Gun handling requires irrevocable paranoia in regard to safely handing guns.
I said before how obviously irresponsible this was, but must add, what a horrible situation to put this 9 year old girl in. Because of complete irresponsible, horrible decisions by adults, this little girl will be haunted by this for a very long long time.
Perhaps her parents didn't know better, and maybe they should have, but the instructor should have known better. He could be the nicest guy in the world, but it was an idiotic thing to have a 9 year old firing an Uzi in full auto. RIP and I really hope this girl will get the mental care she needs to help her cope with this.
It's heartening to see both sides in the gun debate united in condemning putting this kind of weapon in a child's hands. My heart goes out to the young girl and the family of the man who died.
video of the incident. It fades out before he gets shot. He lets her shoot on single then changed it to automatic. Apparently this was some Burger and Guns Restaurant where the parents were off eating while the kid was shooting.
Terrible accident, but no reason to ban guns. You don't teach a kid to shoot with an uzi.
I don't think its a valid reason to ban guns either, but I think it may be a valid reason on looking at age requirements for certain weapons.
Tennessee wouldn't allow me to carry more then 3 slugs in a rifle for deer hunting. Had to put the plug in the shotgun to only be able to load 3 legally.
How many rounds did that Uzi have?
Don't get me wrong, now that I'm an adult, I like to go out and just blast through an entire box of bullets. It can be very fun. I would even bring my son, 10, to something like that. But I sure as hell wouldn't give him an Uzi.
I realize this isn't my choice to make for everyone, but I don't think its terrible to look at the idea of age requirements for certain types of weapons. The founding fathers, even in the most radical version of the 2nd amendment dream, didn't intend for 9 year olds to have weapons like this.
Why in the hell wasn't that moron standing behind her?
So much stupidity.
My son is more than capable of handling a .22 rifle. But when he shoots it, I stand behind him, and I am usually crouched and holding his arms in position to make sure they stay there. This protects myself from what happened to this guy, it also makes sure that I can control his arms, should he lose control of the weapon.
