Conservatives love to bring up the "I have a Dream" speech and restate portions of it like "content of your character and not by the color of your skin" but in reality they're trying to high-jack history. MLK fought white conservatives tooth and nail because they would not relinquish the status quo based on their bigotry. Ask conservatives what they think about MLK's stance on unions, voting rights, civil rights, and the poor.

But this topic looks pretty familiar...

Lol, someone needs to read the vote count on the civil rights act. MLK was conservative. Conservatives fought for civil rights. No matter how much you try you cannot change history.

Define how MLK was conservative.

And define who were the conservatives in the 1960s at the time.

Yeah, but conservative civil rights require responsible behavior and personal accountability.

That's no fun!

MLK was no conservative & the right does a disservice to his memory & their belief system in trying to claim him for their own. As a matter of fact King was moving far to the left politically several years before his demise.

I'm guessing that you are equating Republicans of the 1960s with conservatism - which is a brain-dead way to look at it - but not unexpected of many modern-day Republicans who like to believe they are the champions (somehow) of civil rights.

Are you talking about the Republican votes that were for the civil rights act? The same Republican party that Richard Nixon turned so far to the right that they lost the little integrity they had? But honestly do you not understand the difference between a black conservative and a white conservative from the 1960s? MLK was a religious man that held conservative views. You can actually say that about today's blacks as well . BUT there is a big difference between a deep south white conservative of the 1960s and a black civil rights conservative activist of the 1960s.

Name these rights and required behaviors that conservatives hold so dear...
