Uh; NO school should be teaching "Ebonics" as a 2nd language. If a college wants to teach it as a history or art class; that's Ok. Teaching it along with Spanish, French and so on, nope. Especially in a public high school.

BET is a joke. A sad, disappointing shell of its former self which is as helpful and useful to blacks as a Klan-infected police department in some small hick town in southeast Texas. Doesn't matter what race you are, most people SHOULD realize that. That being said, it's annoying as hell to hear or see a white person ask that.

Oh, so having the majority of television networks on air featuring shows where the majority is white actors, white writers, white directors, white producers, etc. isn't enough? You just HAVE to have your own network as well?

This question also tends to include a "white history month". And just going on what I see on the boards here, a few ask "where can I find all white neighborhoods" or "all white sections of town". Then they get defensive and do the whole shtick of: "If a black person ask to be in a black neighborhood, it's ok. But if a white person, yadda yadda..." Guys, white people are STILL the majority of the population in this country. Throw a dart at a map of the U.S., and I guarantee you'll hit a town with a mostly white population. It's not really racist for a white person to ask that question... "unnecessary" is the proper word for it. But that (and the history of white supremacists rhetoric that goes along with it) is the reason why some people do consider it to be so.

I find that a lot of Fox News personalities tend to throw out the race card as well and they're mostly white conservatives. Those cards are given out to and used by everyone, you know...

Just backing what was already said, HBCU only means Historically Black College or University and that's it. They're all just reminders of the fact that certain colleges were used for blacks during a time when blacks weren't even allowed go to certain other schools. They are predominately black. But predominately does not mean ONLY. I went to Prairie View A&M. PLENTY of Latinos, whites, and other races of people. No, not as many as the black students, but again, HBCU does NOT mean "Black only".

No... you can say the word. You can say it all you want. No one's really stopping you. Personally, I find it to be just a word that you can give any meaning to, just like every other word in the English language. It's the reason behind what you say that makes it either a problem or a welcome. I don't use it, but that's just my thoughts on it.

It's a free country, right?

(And some people are just snobs. No matter what, even if you prove them wrong, they'll be so narrow-minded and stuck in their own bubble that any English dialect that's not "proper" means that the person is unintelligent. Those people who believe this are just snobs and some of them more ignorant or even dumber than the people they're talking about...

First off, we INVENTED rock. Without Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, and all, there'd be no Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Killswitch Engage, and etc.

2nd, music is a universal language. It's one of the few things in this world that's NOT supposed to be separated by race, color, religion, Nationality, or whatever. One of the things that gets under my skin is when people call something "white people music" or "black people music". Makes no sense to me.

Some of you have no idea, do you...?
I agree, however I have heard the term "black music" or "white music" Sometimes I catch myself saying "white gospel" or "blue eyed soul". Music is universal however certain genres do cater to some groups more than others. But one's race should not limit what their musical selections will be. I don't go saying "oh that music is for white people" or "that music is for black people"

No school has ever taught ebonics in this country that i can find. Not one. If you know of a school that does it, show me.

This is a controversy that came out of Oakland back in 1996, and it died fairly quickly after some debate. That's one school district...not nationwide.

the n-word is just a word, its the thought behind it... i tell people that if you have to consciously think about saying the word then you shouldnt say it... if you didnt grow up in a culture where it was used like a pronoun then dont use it.

affirmative action? blacks, whites, hispanics whoever...in this world if you get any kind of edge for anything then take it. some have the misfortune of not being born into a particular family or socioeconomic condition
True. The horrible thing about BET is that it reinforced the idea that there is such a thing as "acting black" amongst black youth and non-black people who rarely or never come into contact with black people. And this idea of "acting black" in the mainstream thug Rap and sleazy soft-core porn-esque R&B videos on BET was based on the worst aspects of socially engineered urban ghetto black culture. BET undid any good that the upper middle class portrayal of black life in the Huxtables had done on the Cosby Show a decade or so earlier.

It had gotten to the point where even little suburban black boys were idolizing Jay-Z instead of Ben Carson because of BET and the mainstream Hip Hop culture and the very flawed media perpetuated universal idea of "acting black". I know many black kids who were raised in nice homes in the suburbs who chose to sell drugs and try to be thugs because they were brainwashed by the BET mainstream Hip Hop culture that glorified drug dealing as an authentic black experience. These guys analyzed Jay-Z lyrics and hung on his every word because he was one of the most popular most successful young black male figures in American pop culture who looked like them. Today, those ex-friends and old acquaintances are convicted felons in and out of jail for years at a time for serious heavy drug distribution charges even though they grew up in nice homes in nice safe child friendly environments where they had many opportunities to become normal law-abiding adults. Many of them could of have become good businessmen with their ability to network and make money selling drugs but tried the unrealistic Jay-Z deal drugs and later invest in business success route that doesn't work too well in real life for most people who dabble in the underworld. Somehow, I think Jay-Z may have never even sold drugs himself. Only a loser who never sold drugs would glorify selling crack as a 40 something year old man to boost his street cred with white suburban folks who actually buy his records.

But that's the problem with being a minority in America. Images of minorities in the media are defined from a one-sided stereotypical point of view of a white person.

But white America's dirty laundry is rarely aired out in the media at the level it is with blacks and Latinos. The brunt of drug abuse in America is largely a white problem. Hard drug abuse is dominated by white Americans.

U.S. Heroin Users Are Mostly White Suburbanites

The truth is that millions of white Americans are dirt poor. The majority of America's poor are whites in flyover states. But the ugly face of white poverty is not shown on TV constantly like the face of black urban poverty.

However, white people are not forced to think of themselves as a generalized whole like black people and all other minority groups. Doing meth and being proud to be a redneck is not socially engineered as "acting white" and country music culture doesn't encourage all white people to act redneckish. White people in the suburbs don't care that rural dwelling whites in countless communities in flyover states are dirt poor and killing themselves with crystal meth. But black people, as a whole, are forced to think inner city ghetto problems are problems for all black people, which is not true. Is it messed up in the hood? Yes. But if you don't live in the hood and never have, it doesn't effect you and you don't have a right to speak on it. Just like how a white person who lives in the suburbs doesn't know what the trailer park is like or how an Asian American born and raised here in the States doesn't know what its like overseas. But the media wants us to believe that there is a dumbed down generalized experience that all members of a given minority group have the same stereotypical experiences.

A lot of hate seems to come rushing out of OP. Better typed; even if hard to read; than keeping it in; IMO. He might be surprised that even many whites often have a victim attitude. As the songs says a victim of this; a victim of that. You might feel better if they gave you some cash. Not really going to happen without strings attached as always.

All I can say is, this forum has a lot to say about the black experience in America, with very few who've actually lived it.
