What do you think Republicans need to do to not alienate people? Can you answer this question without saying "change their policies?" In other words, do they just need to accept that being Republican is just out of date and that Democrats are the popular party?
My ideas are:
1. Say nothing about race and how people are different: Miranda rights sometimes need to be read to Republicans
2. Ditch the Good Ole Boy clubs: Stop using old White men that all are friends and are out of touch with the common people
3. Condemn the actions of racist people that support the Republican Party
4. Be consistent to less intrusive government: Don't pass legislation that is "for the common good" and "protects people from themselves" like forcing longer divorce proceedings or marijuana criminalization
5. Tell better stories: The Democrats love tugging at the heartstrings, whereas Republicans always try and use logic and the deficit to try and prove their point. Start demonizing the opposing party like they always do to you.
6. Be quick to point out Democrat hypocrisy when NOT telling stories: Logic has its place. Put Dems in theirs when they dig themselves into a hole. Also on this, make sure Democrats realize that many of their attacks (like calling you racist when you did nothing) are fallacious and distract from the main point.
7. Stop being intimidated: Democrats are known for yelling loudly and proclaiming how much they are right. Republicans these days tend to just shut up and hope for the best. Sometimes I feel like Republicans just want to keep their jobs rather than serve the people.
That's it for my ideas. What are yours? The challenge here is try not to make it so that the Republicans have to do a complete ideological 180 and just agree to do everything Democrats say. I will add one more: stop fighting gay marriage. It's just not worth the fight and hurts no one.
Here's my two: Forget the abortion issue, it's none of a politicians business, it's up to the woman.
Quit giving in to the media and stick to your values, quit trying to be popular.
make it three: Don't be like a Democrat !

After reading the post you guys sound like Democrats that want to change Republicans and the Conservative Republican Party is far from Dead. With the infusion of the Tea Party Values you will see a energized base.
But you do have some solid validate points since we have turned into a hyper-sensitive country.
1.Stay to core values like Less Gov and less taxation.
2. Abortion and gay rights are here. We as a party may not approve of those controversial life choises, but its up to the moral conviction of these people who have different views. As of these so call points are detractors from the better good of the country.
3. Strong Defense and a solid foreign policy.
4. Secure the border and enforce all Immigration Laws.
5. Encourage American Industry and grow this country so people can have good paying jobs.
6 Drill and use our resources , while we perfect other fuel sources.
Tip of the ice berg. Please do not choose our candidate nor try to make us Socialist Liberal Democrats.
Ps , Most common people want to return to what American Stands for. A leader in the Free world.!
Face it, Conservative policies have never worked for the good of the whole. They are extraordinarily divisive, bigoted, and extremely detrimental to this nation. Their positions reek. Spinning them, incorporating expensive deceptive marketing, lying, pretending to change during election years, attacking the other side - none of these tactics make them smell any better.
Always best to take out the trash. They need to disappear.
For Presidential elections, I assume? Senate races, maybe? Because the GOP owns the governorships and a lot of the statehouses in this country, where the real work gets done. Check out how some of these "red states" with GOP governors are doing- they're kicking butt. And states like mine (IL), with weak Democrat governors, are inching ever closer towards bankruptcy. But since I assume you're referring to Presidential elections, here's my advice.
Present a clear alternative to the Democrats. Do not run a so-called moderate in the hopes of attracting more votes...tried that twice with McCain and Romney and we all know how that turned out. Run a candidate such as Dr. Ben Carson, who can clearly, intelligently, and persuasively argue the conservative worldview in a way that resonates with people. Defend your beliefs and do not cower when the media, blogosphere, and mainstream society try to portray you as a bigot, hatemonger, or worse. Start telling stories of how conservatism has helped people, and how many of the Dems' policies have actually kept people on the government plantation. Stop taking the Democrats' advice for platform positions; that is a recipe for disaster.
Hearing Mitch McConnell groveling to the Koch brothers, (rhymes with crotch) promising killer austerity and no much needed minimum raise hike or student loan help shows how useless that party is. Doing the opposite of that would be a good place to start though.

wow, when have you heard the Republicans put down or even bring up race; it is the Democrats that use the race card.
I am sure my granddaughters in their 20s really love being called part of the gold old boy club, my daughters as well. Not only are they not part of the good old boy club, as you put it, one of our son in laws is Jewish (yes, I know he is white) and our grandson in law is Hispanic. There are many minorities within the party, the Democrats just don't want to hear this.
Condemn who, what, where? I have no idea what you are talking about, I imagine many do not.
What are you talking about when you mention things like longer divorce proceedings? Divorce laws are part of the court system and have nothing to do with either party,
I think I could go on and on, but you get the point. The gay marriage issue I happen to agree.
