What is the purpose of the homeland security agency, again?

Part of the police state on the people. Nothing else.

Homeland inSecurity has no plans to control the border. What they want to control is the highways with their checkpoints. They want you to get use to this intrusion on your liberty as the TSA is now involved in these checkpoints in the interior of the country nowhere close to the border. ( Tenn. ) The only card left to play by the TSA is full body cavity search most likely implemented at random initially and then later required by all. Their logic is that by peering into your rectum they will have a better understanding of your travel destination. The up side to this is you won't have to answer any foolish questions like what you had for dinner. Call it tunnel vision but they believe they can get better access to your brain with this method. There may be some truth to that.

How will they sell that to the Supreme Court ? Most likely the same way they sold the need for checkpoints. The court admitted it was a violation of your constitutional rights but due to the world we live in it is acceptable to them. Then they could combine it with healthcare and provide you with the prostrate exam at the same time. Always concerned to give you the most for your tax dollars. What a marvelous way to promote travel and increase tourism.

They might be able to claim it as part of a program to be more respectful of the Gay Lifestyle. As they increase the frequency of the checkpoint locations, a cross country trip, with numerous search opportunity's, you may very well start to consider an alternative lifestyle.

Yes and if you wanted to overstay your visa, such as is the case here, there's not a lot someone can do if you don't maintain the same residence. There's no biometrics tracking by the government as you move around the country.

Gus Bilirakis ( R- Fl) introduced bills in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, Student Visa Security Improvement Act that have been referred to committee and gone no place fast, within the House. It does not appear these bills have co-sponsors.

Foreign students generally pay higher tuition than US students. US schools compete with schools all over the world for students. Recruiting, admitting and retaining foreign students is business, big business. The "higher education" industry puts pressure on Congress and DHS to avoid roadblocks and make it easy for foreign students to obtain visas. The schools do not want responsibility for tracking/reporting foreign students.

And then there's the cost issue. Requiring DHS to do more extensive backgrounds checks and tracking will cost more money which probably does not sit well with the smaller government folk. And so the can continues to be kicked down the road.

I suppose foreign students could be electronically monitored. That would probably not go over too well with the Higher Learning interest lobby.
this is one of the reasons we have so many illegals living here, it isn't just them crossing over the border and this is why people better start worrying about another 9/11 attack or similar. As for the smaller government folks, I am one of them, there are times when we know we have to spend more money, if spending more money to protect Americans from danger, I am all for it. I am not for government handouts or throwing money away.

OMG, no one is saying they can all be tracked, that is like saying every criminal (which is what many are) can be tracked. The point is, better follow up and tracking.

This is city data and I don't think it is our place to do research on how to solve problems, but we do have every right to express our opinions. With more complete checking and follow up, many could be tracked. How to do this, that is up to the government to investigate and come up with an answer.

No one needs to be tracked by any advanced tech. device. The tools are out there to do the job now. Anyone who has overstated there visa could be put on the APB apprehend list. They will contact authority somewhere in their travels. If immigration was interested in dong the job, many incorrectly assume they do, then they could be taken into custody and deported routinely. They aren't interested in doing that.

So, yes, get ready for another attack. Decide now what additional liberty you want to give up because that is the name of the game.

Except those who have a vested interest in fading into the background, of course. I have a Green Card, and I only ever show it to travel internationally and when applying for jobs. If I had malicious intent, it would be trivial to remain out of sight.

Also, USCIS would need to clean up their act - lots of people whose conditions change technically overstay visas, because the USCIS is so damn slow. When it takes 120 days to process a change to a 90-day visa, things can get kinda hairy.

It does happen, though. But giving local LE enforcement duties as regards immigration - are you prepared to prove your citizenship at a traffic stop? Because someone with your name could be on the list, and I don't think Americans would relish being hauled off if they can't produce a passport...

Homeland Security is busy "re-locating" the Central American "kids" that have been flooding the Southern Border. They can't be bothered to check out the "Visa" escapees that supposedly were going to attend a nonexistent "Beauty School" or "Massage School".

I tend to believe that few people fully understand our "Immigration" program. You hear a lot about the Illegals crossing the border from Mexico and almost nothing about the equal numbers that are flying in under the Immigration Program. The numbers of these two groups is roughly EQUAL.

The "Comprehensive Immigration Program" that Reid/Pelosi/Obama are pushing would increase ALL those numbers. Big Business loves this because they can import cheap labor -- all this while US Citizens are still looking for jobs. The Leftist Activist Latino/Hispanic groups LOVE it because it's "amnesty" for Millions. A couple of problems for me are that this is all "self serving" for groups and Politicians that don't care if it hurts Jobs here or even imports terrorists. They don't care that it bypasses the many who really try to play by the rules.

We are bringing in people from Pakistan, Somalia, Gaza, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Iraq, so many others ..... we don't even know who these people are. Homeland Security is not going to track them in any way - they are way too busy finding housing for the Central Americans, frisking Grandma and two year old kids and turning the US Border Patrol into "processing centers/diaper changers/transporters" for 10's of 1,000's who are turning themselves in to collect the American Goodies and Cash in on their Primiso (freebie card).
