OK lets say we look at those, they have pretty gradual rates of change in a what? 12,000 year cycle.
We're doing that MUCH MUCH faster.
Its like comparing the regular waves of the ocean to a 500 foot tidal wave.
Ummm...... Not so gradual, and no temps are not rising much much faster... Our 0.7C rise in temps over the past 100 years pales in comparison to abrupt climate change in the past....
Average Yearly Temperatures in Greenland over the past 100,000 Years as inferred from Oxygen isotope analysis of the GISP2 Greenland ice core. Source: Cuffey, K.M., and G.D. Clow, "Temperature, accumulation, and ice sheet elevation in central Greenland throughout the last deglacial transition", Journal of Geophysical Research, 102, 383-396, 1997.
As seen in Figure 1, the ice core record showed frequent sudden warmings and coolings of 15°F (8°C) or more. Many of these changes happened in less than 10 years. In one case 11,600 years ago, when Earth emerged from the final phase of the most recent ice age (an event called the Younger Dryas), the Greenland ice core data showed that a 15°F (8°C) warming occurred in less than a decade, accompanied by a doubling of snow accumulation in 3 years. Most of this doubling occurred in a single year.
Are you aware that mammals first appeared only 200 million years ago?
Ignore everything from the data that shows how normal rapid global warming is and how normal it is for the earth to be much much warmer than it is. And then ask something totally irrelevant to any of the actual climate history of the planet. Done. This is the normal cycle of the planet's climate history...whether you like it or not,.,

Are you losing track of the fact that the goal is to keep earth's climate suitable for human habitation? Since there wasn't even enough oxygen to support animal life only 600 million years ago, anything beyond that is irrelevant.
Could you all just take one step back and ponder whether AGW might be doing us a HUGE favor if it pushes off the next episode of mile-thick ice to chip off of our windshields? Given a choice between that, and palm trees in Iowa, I'd take the palm trees every time.
Besides, warming seas have created ideal conditions for lobster, leading to low prices, which means that global warming tastes good.
I've also thought that global warming may be keeping an ice age at bay....The thing is, can it be controlled?
