First, very few McDonald's (or any other fast food joints) are hiring full time employees now that Obama and his sycophants completely jacked up the definition of "full-time."
Second, why don't they have any other options? It's doubtful that McDonald's is the only business entity in town.
Third, what is the definition of "living wage"? I'm still waiting for someone to come up with a valid definition that makes logical sense.
I live in Orange country california
according to this website
1. The majority of jobs added since the Great Recession are low wage McJobs that people can't survive on.
2. Education is extremely expensive, and not everyone has the chops to make through. And even if they do, there are not enough white collar jobs to support such a population.
3. There is no reason to believe that people on average are somehow differently motivated today than they were in the past; there is, however, good evidence that jobs and incomes in this nation look quite different than in the past.
4. If all society offers a growing segment of society is McJobs, then increasing numbers of people will either turn to government assistance that you and I pay for, or else they will starve.
5. Handouts are not the sustainable answer; finding some way to reintroduce enough decently-paying jobs in the face of automation and offshoring is the answer.
6. Pretending that nothing has changed and that everyone who didn't make it like you or I did is lazy is just not productive and ignores the real problem.
Just because the government gives out assistance don't mean it is necessary to survive.
low skill jobs pay poorly. want more money???? learn a skill.
want there to be less competition????. stop giving amnesty to the 60 million illegals who take those jobs.

Yet with all this hand wringing over the poor min wage worker and how he can't afford life in the USA you have your illegals sending an average of $350/week "home".
How is it the illegals can live here, pay their bills, have no social services available and still be able to send a few hundred "home" each week ?
Yes, teacher pay in Texas is tragic. I think the way to fix it (besides moving out of Texas) is to support higher teacher salaries, not lower fast-food worker salaries.
Outside of the FED who is arguing that we should lower the pay for fast food workers?

and don't forget Illegal Immigrants Pay Taxes, Too.
How is that I could find a Chinese guy who would do your job for quarter of your pay and still be happy?
